Setting up Microphone fails!
« on: December 13, 2012, 06:32:04 AM »
Hi All

I have not been able to run Skype for a while now as the computer/OpSys (PC:OS 2012) would not "see" my Microphone.

Today I got a new Genius (NOT USB) Headset and tried again - still no luck.

My on-board Chip set is an Intel HDA 662 rev1 Analog. When the system starts it report that this is not working and it is changing to the same card but with 'Default Drivers'. Using the details here - http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,108401.msg926798.html#msg926798 I ran through the settings. Enabled Pulse, re-booted, installed PAVolControl and re-booted again to be sure.

When I try and run PAVolControl I get the error "Connection failed; Connection refused". Sound comes through on the new Headset OK and on my speakers (Testing with Clemantine) but voice is not being picked up (Skype test confirms this).

Can anyone help me out please!!??

Thanks

PulseAudio is not working correctly.

(Ensure it is enabled in PCC - Hardware - Sound)

Try these to correct it

With PulseAudio working correctly you will be able to use PulseAudio Volume Control.

Also the problem might be that the MIC input in turned down so it cannot be heard.
Checking through the levels of whatever mixer/s you have installed and raising the levels might be all that is needed.
If you cannot find anything on existing mixers for the purpose then you could try QAS mixer .....  but be warned it is comprehensive so will take a little time to go through it.  ;)

IMO, as PA is installed you should try to get that working first.

In the audio mixer add the capture sliders, one of them must be up.

Thanks Just17

That did it!!

It was my default.pa file that was empty. I did the rename as detailed and then PaVolControl came up OK. A bit of "tweaking" there and it all worked fine!!

Thanks for the help - greatly appreciated.
