Hi,

I thought that was included in the "Intel 810 or later" driver
that's supposed to auto select at boot.   In PCL Control
Center it can be manually selected.    Always does on my
machine.

it is not included (at least for me)
it seems that i915 module is not loaded
[root@localhost ~]# lsmod | grep i915
[root@localhost ~]#
anyway, if i choose to use intel i810 driver , the image gets grabbled  then, after  (re)reboot, it falls back automatically to vesa ..
i was wonder how your modprobe.preload and modprobe.conf look like..
 thx

My modprobe's don't address video.   Try the intel i740 x11 driver in Synaptic.
That machine must be pretty old.   I've seen that module or driver but I don't
know where it's at.

finally solved  ;)
added i915  in modprobe.preload
removed xorg.conf and created new one only with this content:
 Section "Device"
    Driver "intel"
    Identifier "old intel stuff"
    Option "shadow" "true"
EndSection

reboot and everything works fine

thx !

hi ff and sorry for delay
well the things are .. bad with glxgears
0,5 fps is the average  :'(
as you can see 3D apps are not working
same case for compiz (all kde desktop icons are gone and only the  wallpaper is showed on display if i try to enable compiz)

tryed some options passed to i915 module, via modprobe.conf, with same bad results
anyway i use this computer as a server so all i need for my graphic card is to  show icons, which are showed well if Option "shadow" "true" is specified in xorg.conf
so, in a way, this topic is closed but a new one will be opened  :)

p.s
intel 810 and later in pcc works well and the same  as specifying i915 in modprobe.preload, as i wrote before
thx again !
