What repository to use for PCLOS FM 2011-04 updates?
« on: December 10, 2012, 11:30:32 PM »
I recently installed FM 2011-04 and did an update (via Synaptic Package Manager, after which that seems was a bad thing to do because now I cannot boot into it! It just shows the PCLOS background and hangs there!

So, what is the correct repository (or repositories) for a FullMonty update?

Thanks,
QBall

All repositories are the same, pick one that is closest to you or the one that allow you to update in the shortest amount of time. The default should be good enough for most people.

The reason why you ran out of disk space in your previous post is because synaptic was set to keep the downloaded packages after they were installed and it kept over 2.7GB,eating up all of your remaining limited space in your root partition.

Whatever mirror you will use,may sure synaptic does not keep the downloaded packages after they are installed and use a bigger root partition and you should be good.

Only use one repository at a time.
.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

As stated previously, you need a bigger / partition, and you need a newer FM image. The newest is the 2012.09 image.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

I saw that about making sure Synaptic deletes all packages after install ... I re-installed FM 2011-04 and made sure that:

1) my root partition was more than sufficient in size (70G), & home is 150G,
2) that Synaptic Package Manager deletes all packages after installing them.  BUT, it seems the update deleted some important packages (or whatever) that was necessary for FM 2011-04 to work or boot up. I could not even boot in safe mode ... it just sat there with the FullMonty background (the bull) and no icons showing booting!

I dunno if I'm getting across whatever info is needed but all I can say is that FM 2011-04 is no longer booting up past the point that it shows it is booting the desktop.

Again, I am running FullMonty via VMPlayer.

Thanks for the help...

My ISP is not allowing torrents and I cannot find a direct link to the iso.

Being curious, why did you install such an old version 2011-04, when 2012.09 is available ???

I tried to download it via the torrent and, evidently, my ISP is blocking all torrent file downloads!? I cannot find any direct links to the ISO, else I would (preferably) download and install the newer version!
