Virtual Machines... nothing new, really old stuff
« on: December 09, 2012, 08:12:46 PM »
Hey kids, if you think that Virtual systems is new and is leading technology, better check this out

http://www.ibmsystemsmag.com/mainframe/trends/z-vm/vm_community/

VM has been going now for 40 years officially. Actually there was a pre VM called Video370 which was around before the official announcement of VM. To us old mainframe folks, all this hype about Visualization is nothing but a big yawn.....been there, done that, got the T-Shirt, wore it out... sigh.

have a nice day.....

Well, I think the big news was (and it's old news, now, as well) when VMWare was able to do this same type of virtualization on commodity hw that was never originally designed to support it (x86 architecture)...
