How to tell what version of PCLOS I'm using.[SOLVED]
« on: December 09, 2012, 01:28:04 AM »
I've just installed a new PCLOS in place of my older one.  I got the new one off a DVD from Linux Format magazine (LXF 162 - Oct 2012).  How do I tell what version it is?  Is it 2012-06 or 2012-08, etc.  There's no indication on the dvd or in the install process.

I ask this here rather than on the LXF forums, because I thought others might have the same question.

Thank you.

Has it been fully updated? If so it would be 2012.08

Since PCLinuxOS is a rolling release once it is updated it is the same as having the very latest version installed.

Wow!  That was quick.  Thank you.  Now I'll update it, in two days time, when I have more bandwidth.

Thanks again.

The original .iso file might have a clue too in its name. Official releases have the version as part of filename.

To check the release:

With a filemanager go to /etc/release and click on release text file:
As example I get this:  "PCLinuxOS release 2012 (PCLinuxOS) for x86_64".
