[SOLVED] DVDStyler updating to new version
« on: December 07, 2012, 07:03:46 PM »
When i use DVDStyler and everything is ready to author and i click on Burn DVD it crashes.

There is a new version out i noticed and want to update it, so i went into Synaptic - dvdstyler and highlighted it, went up to the top and clicked on Package, Force Version is greyed out. Is there a reason it is greyed out ?

I`m using:

FullMonty Release:            2012.09
Kernel-version:    3.2.18-pclos2.bfs
KDE4-version:                        4.9.2

Derek.

Synaptic - Mark All Upgrades  .......  and Apply them all.

Hopefully that will sort your problem.

What version of DVDStyler have you installed?

Launch dvdstyler from a terminal, and copy & paste any errors it throws up ......  might give an idea why it crashes.

The DVD Styler version i have installed is 2.3.3. When i run it from a terminal it gives no errors, just starts normally.

It`s when i go to File - Burn DVD it crashes.

If i use Bombono DVD and once the files are ready to author and i click on the output tab and the click Build DVD-Video, this comes up:

#
# Build DVD-Video in folder: /home/derek/.cache/bombono-dvd-video
#

ERR: ffmpeg failure: command not found
Stop authoring!

Is there a problem with ffmpeg do you think ?

That would appear to be the case.

It might not be installed ......  check through Synaptic for ffmpeg related packages and install/reinstall what you think relevant.

That might fix the issue.

EDIT:
Try launching ffmpeg from a terminal. You should get something like this

Code: [Select]
[user@XPS ~]$ ffmpeg
ffmpeg version 0.7.12, Copyright (c) 2000-2011 the FFmpeg developers
  built on Jun 13 2012 15:43:23 with gcc 4.5.2
  configuration: --prefix=/usr --enable-shared --libdir=/usr/lib --shlibdir=/usr/lib --incdir=/usr/include --disable-stripping --enable-postproc --enable-gpl --enable-pthreads --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --disable-encoder=vorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-x11grab --enable-runtime-cpudetect --enable-libdc1394 --enable-libschroedinger --enable-librtmp --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-version3 --enable-libx264 --enable-nonfree --enable-libfaac --enable-libxvid
  libavutil    50. 43. 0 / 50. 43. 0
  libavcodec   52.123. 0 / 52.123. 0
  libavformat  52.111. 0 / 52.111. 0
  libavdevice  52.  5. 0 / 52.  5. 0
  libavfilter   1. 80. 0 /  1. 80. 0
  libswscale    0. 14. 1 /  0. 14. 1
  libpostproc  51.  2. 0 / 51.  2. 0
Hyper fast Audio and Video encoder
usage: ffmpeg [options] [[infile options] -i infile]... {[outfile options] outfile}...

Use -h to get full help or, even better, run 'man ffmpeg'
[user@XPS ~]$

If you get command not found then try this command

/usr/bin/ffmpeg

Report the results  ;)

I`m using Bombono DVD at the moment see how that makes my dvd.

seems to be .......  gdvdcreator ....  don't have it installed and never used it .......

In essence, it is a front-end to the well known dvd authoring
command-line program 'dvdauthor', allowing the user to graphically

You could try the old ManDVD which is in the repo.  Not the same as 2ManDVD - I could never get that to work, but that was some time ago.

A little video on ManDVD working
 not arduous only 3 mins.

The menu is not what I normally make, depending on the time spent making backgrounds and buttons, you can get a half-decent menu.

I used an PAL format mpg file but I do know that it will re-encode an avi.
Not shown, but after authoring, it will make an iso file that burns.

Are you try to encode audio in ac3?

When yes, there is something buggy, will works with ffmpeg version >= 0.11.0. You have to use then mp2 ...

Since I use PAL and an old Haupaugge capture card usually it is mpeg files and mp2 audio.

but for the sake of interest I have just tried one of my screen capture xvid avi's, 15 fps and mp3 audio & selected re-encode to ac3.

Again I normally use Nero linux for trouble free burning but gave k3b a try. Would not launch straight from ManDVD but took and burnt the video_ts folder no problem.  IMHO better to create an ISO file and burn that.
The DVD plays ok in a reasonably modern (3 years old) dvd player/recorder.

edit: I remember the ac3 problem with slideshows but AFAIK the problem with the dvd-slideshow script was fixed.
