Log-in user icons
« on: December 09, 2012, 08:03:17 PM »
I am not sure if this topic is documented someplace, sorry if it is. I searched the forums but as you can imagine using search arguments like 'icon' and 'user' etc gave me hundreds of items.
I know there are icons for user's which are very nice, things like chess board, rocket, some flowers etc, they are located in 'usr/share/mdk/faces'. I thought it would be nice to have something different so wondered how to get some new ones. We have sites to download wallpaper, themes, and all kinds of icons but I could not find anything about how to add to 'faces'. When I look at the files they are all *.png so I copied some .png files and they seem to work. I also noticed that once the file is attached to a user, the name is changed to 'userid.face.icon'. This seems to work quite nicely.
So my bottom line question, is this documented anyplace??? Might be a nice article for the newsletter?

I also have a strange issue with setting up the different icons, not sure if its me or ???  If I go and change and icon in the User Setting's, it seems to loose the other set up faces so whenever I change one I also have to make sure I go an select everyone of the user icons.

thanks for your time...Ron

Are you using kdm or gdm?? I had a similar problem and posted earlier, but it is only with gdm.

For user-icons settings with GDM type in terminal (as user): gdmphotosetup.
