Libre Office won't install on E17 Fall Magic
« on: December 02, 2012, 01:28:49 PM »
As per title. This is on my HP Probook 6545b. I've just put Fall Magic on it to replace a XFCE install that wouldn't boot properly (Known problem - I'll be fixed in the new XFCE ISO soon .

In the meantime, Libre Office appears to download from the repo and install, BUT there's nothing under Office in the menu.  NOTE: My desktop box runs Fall Magic with Libre Office - installed correctly about a year ago.  Could the problem lie with the newer version of LO's indtaller. If so, some advice on getting a LO install to work would be very much appreciated (I'm not scared of using the terminal).

what is "Fall Magic", an official PCLOS release?
If LO is installed then you can launch it with this command, for example:
Code: [Select]
libreoffice3.6 --writer
Else test the Offline Installer described in Option 1b here

If LO installs fine but doesn't appear in the menu then this feature should be added if E17 is officially supported?

you can also use a lxde or kde mini and install task-xfce and task-xfce-plugins there
The full life is a big mess

Fall Magic was the last E-17 "spin"(?), released in November of 2011. So, not an official release.

Fall Magic is too old to be safely updated.

If you want something nice, solid, fast & light.. Go for  LXDE. And if you want to use E17, download "task-enlightenment" from synaptic, after you're set up. They make a great combo!

I used Fall magic as it's the 'newest' version I've got that supports my (old) WiFi dongle.  I'm getting a newer express card wireless n adapter, and I'll move to the latest xfce when it's released.
