How to auto switch between eth0 and ppp0 ?
« on: December 05, 2012, 08:49:08 AM »
At home I use my wifi which is shown as eth0. While at work I use Bluetooth Dial Up Networking that shows as ppp0.

I am looking for a setting that will auto switch to wifi when my laptop is at home. However, the switch to ppp0 should preferably be manual.

So, the autoswitching should be one way from ppp0 to eth0 and not reverse.

How can I achieve this?

Using PCLinuxOS KDE laptop with a Broadcom wifi chip.

You could set eth0 to start at boot and ppp0 not to do so, but set ppp0 to be managed by users, so you can start it from net_applet/net-centre.

That way, on boot, eth0 would connect automatically if available, but ppp0 would only connect when you start it manually.

Actually it was set by default to start on boot.

I generally do not shutdown when I go from office to home. Just suspend to RAM.

Earlier it used to automatically pick up my home wifi when I woke it up. Recently I have to click on the net_applet/net-centre icon in system tray and select Active interfaces as wifi for it to connect.

Deleting and recreating both connections did not seem to help.
