Start Menu gone
« on: December 01, 2012, 08:54:09 PM »
I've ben playing around withLXDE and my start menu is gone.  when i hit the PC button, all I get is "run" and "Logout."  all he programs, etc. are not listed.  The menu is only those two selections.

EDIT -- OKay..now it's back. Weird.

FWIW, my install on the Eeepc does the same if it is Suspended, but returns with a reboot. Initial panic has been replaced with idle curiosity. I just reboot if I need the menu.
I must try >update-menus.

Running the command update-menus is quicker than rebooting. :D

Just to be clear, do you mean in a terminal, in root,  entering "update-menus" (no quotes)?

When you play with lxappearance, and changed the icon, or window theme it will change the menu, too.
By some theme it needs a little more time.

Ya know, as suggested up here, I created a new user account for the expressed purpose of fiddling with LXDE and XFCE. If worse comes to worse, I can always delete it.  I can always chwon and gain access to specific directories and folders.  Or simply transfer them via root.

It looks like I'm having the same problem: I log into LXDE, click the "PC" button and I can only see "Run" and "Logout". I click "Run", then the Run Window pops up. I hit "Cancel". Then I click the "PC" button again, but now the whole menu shows up. So, for me it's reproductible.

EDIT: I run PCLinuxOS-LXDE-2012.12, fresh install.

I have seen the  "only see "Run" and "Logout" condition of the menu and was able to correct it.

By "reproductible",  Are you saying that you can "recreate" the condition at will?

If so, you didn't explain how to do it. Or,, I missed that part.

Just curious.  ;D
