nVidia 310.19
« on: November 29, 2012, 08:24:01 AM »
nVidia 310.19 (in testing) fails to load modules;
both from synaptic & from the nVidia site (manual install).
Kernel installed: 3.2.18, although that should'nt be an issue.

         Anyone?, cheers, Hoos.

Doing a manual install of the NVIDIA software downloaded from the NVIDIA site will break your system in exactly this way (it creates config which conflicts with ours).
We have always advised against doing it.

Nope, I've been doing manual installs of the Nvidia drivers for years.
Manual uninstalls uninstall everything without borking your system.
Besides, while installing you get the choice of modifiyig your xorg.conf.
Well, no, never.
You should know because this is the 'advanced' section.

Since 304.xx NV provide their own dkms.conf which causes module load failure.
Anyway, that's all I will say on this subject as I'm clearly not 'advanced' enough for you.

I chose the dkms option 'no'.
Awfully sorry about the attitude though.
As we are in the 'advanced' section here I expected nuance
as well as an adequate reply to the question as such.

Sorry to have bothered you, cheers, Hoos

All  NV 310.19 testers  (32 and 64 bit) had no issues with installing this driver.  ???
Did a pre-test before it was in testing/test sections and installed without complains and reported to the packager.
All testers installed from the pclinuxos repo with synaptic  (or apt-get).

this is not informative, need to give logs.

when it fail, copy the contents of " /var/log/Xorg.0.log" and post it here.
