You Should See What I Got Her for xmas! This is what she got me.
« on: November 29, 2012, 01:06:40 AM »

I removed the "thumb studs" and the Clip to reduce weight.

The other side.

Blade alignment is perfect.

Deployment is via a torsion bar which causes the knife to "flick" open.

It has a "Frame Lock" shown here.

Steel: 8Cr13MoV, Titanium carbo-nitrade coating
Handle: 8Cr13MoV, Titanium carbo-nitride coating
Blade Length: 2 3/4 inches; Closed Length: 3 3/4 inches
Tip up or tip down pocket clip  (I totally removed my clip and carry the thing in my pocket)  ;)
Speed safe and flipper opening systems; Frame lock locking system.

Price,, less than $35.00.

very nice knife

about the handle, is it better to have it metal only or with wood, plastic or similar materials?

this kind of small knife, is it meant to be used for a specific purpose or multimurpose?

Thanks Neal ;)

I think this is personal taste along with what you intend to use the knife for.

Some pros and cons :

The wood is usually very attractive and fairly light weight but it is not the most durable.

The plastics "G10" are very light weight and very durable but aren't always all that attractive.

All metallic knifes can be both very attractive and extremely durable but they are usually a bit heavy.

So,,, you tell me which is best?

ps. this particular knife comes with an all metal construction only.

I never buy a knife with a specific cutting purpose in mind, in that regards they are all intended as general multi-cutting utensils. Everything from the mail to that "clam shell plastic stuff" you get when buying anything at Target.

I do however have different knives for different situations. I carry a different knife to a formal gathering than the one I carry on a fishing trip.

A story:

Last year I was traveling up an escalator with JRex on my arm and at the top, there was a man with his 9 year old son.

His 9 year old had gotten his shoe lace caught in the escalator between the stairs and the upper floor.

People were starting to trip and fall down at the second floor because they could not get him free.

They were stuck there. The only option for them was to leave the shoe until I arrived at the top.

Seeing the predicament he was in about half way up the escalator, I was prepared when I got to the top.

I asked the father if he just wanted to "cut" the child free and he said yes.

I was ready for the challenge.

I whipped out my pocket knife, cut the child's shoe lace as close to the end as I could and saved the day.

I will never be without a pocket knife of some sort.

 ;D

Typically, at xmas time, JRex and I buy all sorts of things for each other all December long. It's not unusual for us to buy three or four things each and we buy them impulsively.

She runs across a purse or a dress, I run across a knife or a tool.

The gifts don't get wrapped, the presents aren't a surprise, but we both get exactly what we want every year and it makes us both happy to do it this way.  ;D ;D

Plenty of other people (family) have "unwanted surprises" waiting for us carefully gift wrapped.

Usually the most desirable of these things are the thoughts.  ::)  LOL
