My daughter traveling to Manilla...
« on: November 28, 2012, 01:44:04 PM »
... for the second time this year, sent from her work.
She had no much free time there and won't have it at the next visit.

As far as I remember there are at least two thai here and I'd like to ask them what she would try to see in Manilla in her few free hours?

She was impressed of the fruits there and was disappointed by the mind laziness of thai. I don't know of the other regions of Philippines... :-\

Ayeah, is it true Philippines was named after a person that loved horses too much?

Yes. Named after the 16th century King Philip II of Spain and he loved horses but loved nothing better than burying his prisoners of war up to the neck so that only their heads were showing and then getting his horsemen to ride around the field trampling the heads until they were all dead.

Nice sort of chap to name a country after. They should have changed the name as soon as they achieved independence.

I wish your daughter well on her journey my friend.
I have no knowledge of that part of the world so I cannot be of service to you there.

Ok, I'm somewhat nonplussed by most of that, Other than the you have a daughter part ;D You do realize that Thailand and the Philippines are two separate Countries a good 1000+ miles apart, or would I be mistaken ?

I pretty sure they are separate countries, not sure which one of the two claim Manilla as a city of theirs  :D

what does "mind laziness" mean?

.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

Yes they are vary much not close to the same at all.  I think we have two members that live in Thailand now but are not Thai people.  I have been to the Philippines twice but that was back in the day of a vary active air base and some of the total insanity of the times - I am better now.  Try to find an xpat forum for the Philippines as the people on that forum would know everything about current travel, lodging and sites.

I live in the Philippines and generally hate Manila. So crowded, congested, polluted, noisy. I stay far from there...
But... I got a daughter studying there. She knows meanwhile wassup in Manila and lucky enough more about more enjoyable spots. Avoiding Manila (maybe except nightlife or some "special area´s" like parts of Makati) there is lots to discover in the Philippines, not at the least the in general friendly provincial people. It´s more fun in the Philippines but not in Manila (To me that is)!

Manila is in the Philippines. The people are called Philippinoes. I've never met a Philippino I didn't like. My best friend, Archie is from the Philippines, though he had lived and worked in China for many years.

Too bad she dose not have much time.  I love the Filipino like Neal says never met one I did not like.  If she likes shopping check out the SM (supper mall)  I like Cebu myself.  I third avoiding the balut.  But do try the lumpia and pansit.
