All hail the new OS, same as the old OS!

(sorry someone had to say it and the switch in my head that controls those impulses is defective)

You forgot a very important letter. You use it anytime you are describing Microsux stuff--POS, not just OS.   ;D

yes, they are creating the opportunity they need with this

tablets seems that won't disappear soon, so this is what they need to do to survive

i personally can't accept the tablets, no keyboard, even with windows or android in it, is a no no

the keyboard most tablets offer are a joke this segment of the market needs to grow alot

Literally  ;)
 ;D

Crow, I respect you as an individual...

But my tablet is better at social media, texting, emails, playing games, watching movies & auto-correction, than my smartphone.

Well, probably my opinion is because I just use my phone to talk, some texting and a few reminders. I'm always near a computer: laptop at work and seminars, desktop at home, if I'm anywhere else is the other part of life so I won't connect  :)  movies? I put them in a USB pendrive and watch them in a big screen, frequently munching something  ;D  and with the kids around  :-\.

Tablets are not an option for me, I don't think I can have any work done on them. As an example, last thing I did was an article for a symposium, at times I had open: the article, Dolphin, XMind, two PDF's and a .doc file at the same time because I went back and forth on all of them.

But I'm sure others have different needs, my wife told me last month she needs a tablet for her work and we are waiting for the Christmas offers. She coordinates a program at the State University and needs something light and handy, probably with a stylus and handwriting recognition to take notes while she talk with other teachers, often at the corridors and synchronize with her computer later. I will probably fix her something with Dropbox, it's easier.

I'll go along with that.

Having a desktop/tower/laptop/netbook computer has it's plus's.  A real keyboard & "mouse".... and a descent sized monitor.

But if/when you're on the go, a tablet is better than a smartphone.... no?

I guess so, I phone is a phone  ;)

My wife would agree with the need of a tablet, I think what happens is that I talk from the work-tool perspective

Sorry, but I always maintained that the only people so important that the need to be plugged in 24/7 are the ones that are responsible for National Security of their respective countries.  Everyone else is just wannabes.  I use a phone to make calls, i don't text.  If I want to watch a movie, I will go to my computer or tv to watch it.  If I want to play a game, there is already several devices for that.  I have yet to find a decent portable version of an RPG.

Hmmmmmm.  I am a self-employed person.  MY cellphone IS my life-line.  Without it, I would have a tough time surviving.  People/customers text and voice call me every day.

Whether we like it or not, cellphone & tablets are here to stay...

I really am not against them, as I am against the way people let them take over their lives.  I see people that are too busy with their gadgets to pay attention to the world around them.  Two people sitting in a restaurant across from each other, busy play with their electronic toys to talk to each other.  Some idiot texting behind the wheel of their car on the highway, and the gal who is too busy talking to her friend on the phone while the cashier and the people in line behind her are waiting for her to pay for her purchases.

Like one of the other members said, shut off the computer and do something useful.

I totally agree with you.

I am not a loner.  I like people around me.

Technology has made it possible for people/persons to remain hermits.... sad, no?

Or be in touch. In a recent travel my son sent messages several times to tell me how he was doing because initiated the travel sick. I know people who their only way to be in touch is internet.

I think the problem as in many other things in life is the abuse, not the use of the tools.

"Crank up the old rumor mill. A user on a Taiwanese forum has posted information about the next version of Windows — “Windows 9″ or “Windows Blue.” While the info is still sparse, this forum user noted that the current alpha version is build 9622 while Windows 8 is back at 9200.

While the data is far from confirmed, the post states that Metro UI will apparently remain the operating system’s default, but it is supposedly more customizable and will feature highly resizable tiling. The traditional Windows Desktop remains, but it has been visually updated to conform more to the Metro style. Lastly, the updated Windows kernel has reached version 6.3."

If it is Microsoft, I...don't ....care!

BTW, Windows 8 just makes the user feel stupid.

I agree...  it's MS, which is a POS....

I had an opportunity (?) to use a co-worker's new laptop that has Win8 on it...  until I figured out how to navigate the "tiles" I was totally lost and feeling very stupid...

Looks to me like they are trying to make a PC into a smartphone (the WinPhone looks the same)....

Just another marketing angle..

So if you don't want to buy my bridge for say $100, then how about maybe $25 to rent it for a year?  It's a very nice bridge.

Makes me laugh...
Older then dirt, but still above it...

This is very cool and comfortable - a desktop smartphone with a diagonal of 27 inches.  ;D ;D ;D
