microsoft codename blue
« on: November 28, 2012, 01:15:23 PM »
this is a linux forum, i know, but it also is a place where we complain about other os, even knowing it is basically against the rules

still, there is acase where the windows world releases a pearl like windows 8(that is more dirt than nacre) or like this one

"Way back in August, three months before the release of Windows 8, we learnt about the existence of a project at Microsoft codenamed Blue. At the time it wasn’t clear whether this was Windows 9, or some kind of interim update/service pack for Windows 8. Now, if unnamed sources are to be believed, Windows Blue is both of those things: a major update to Windows 8, and also the beginning of a major shift that will result in a major release of Windows every 12 months — just like Apple’s OS X.

This information stems from The Verge, which cites several anonymous sources who are “familiar with Microsoft’s plans.” According to these insiders, Blue will roll out mid-2013, and will be very cheap — or possibly even free"

"Perhaps more important, though, is the shift to a 12-month release cadence. Historically, Microsoft has released a major version of Windows every few years, with the intervening periods populated with stability — and security-oriented service packs. Now it seems that Microsoft wants to move to an OS X-like system, where new and exciting features will be added on an annual basis. In turn, Microsoft will drop the price of these releases — probably to around $25, just like OS X."

if licenses become this cheap, what this could mean to everyone?  new markets?

also if the os becomes a endless update, would this make windows less bad and become a direct competitor to linux?

They will have to make a better product than the buggy, virus ridden, trojan infected and malware attracting thing they have always put out to be any competition to Linux.

I see it as a big change, MS is finally going to war with marketing weapons and they will have a good chance to grow in the tablet market, I think that is what they are looking for because they don't need to low the prices in the desktop/laptop market.

With the increasing power of tablets, MS Market, good compatibility and low prices they can be a strong contender.

They will keep prices low until they have a big chunk of the market and then prices will go up.

I don't think big companies will bother changing the OS every year.

On the downside I expect to see a hell of incompatibilities between each Windows release.

yes, they are creating the opportunity they need with this

tablets seems that won't disappear soon, so this is what they need to do to survive

i personally can't accept the tablets, no keyboard, even with windows or android in it, is a no no

the keyboard most tablets offer are a joke this segment of the market needs to grow alot

It's just a marketing ploy - to sell the same thing over and over again with different names.
In fact does not change anything. It will be the same Windows.

IMHO, I would have to say, MS does better at marketing, then they do at providing a stable operating system...
Long live PCLOS!

All hail the new OS, same as the old OS!
