Verizon - changing plans no longer works on my computer
« on: November 26, 2012, 07:57:01 PM »
I'm not sure what happened, but I can no longer edit my plan using this computer.
I have been able to on my smart phone, and my moms macbook, but not on my computer, using PCLinuxOS; and firefox browser.

I can get to the page, but I can't select a new plan. It's like it doesn't even recognize my mouse, even though I can still click on links.

Have you tried using any other browser on your machine to see if it is Firefox or something else causing the issue?

Something is really messed up here. I tried konqueror, but that is REALLY slow, and says something at the bottom right, near the loading bar.
There's a bug, ladybug I imagine, and hovering over it, it says "This web page contains coding errors."

I tried installing opera from the website, but can't seem to open up the RPM to install. Went to synaptic package manager, found it, clicked "mark for install", "apply" twice, and it closes out on me.

When was the last time you updated your machine?

I tried the browser you suggested. I can click on any changes to the plan. So that may very well narrow it down to Firefox as being the culprit.

Last update...ekk...probably been a good month or two.

Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

updated everything. same results. It won't allow me to make changes.

tried Firefox at work, Windows; and it works just fine. Is it possible my computer is dying? Sometimes the website freezes for several seconds. I have to wait for it to unfreeze for me to do stuff again.

I have been seeing some weird Firefox behaviour for some time now. CPU use shoots up to 50% and Firefox window stops responding.
Been wondering about some plug-in as the probable cause, Flash anyone?

Thanks Vanguard-741, I will observe more carefully from now on.
------------------
Try a new Firefox profile.

Open Konsole. Type firefox -p and hit ENTER.
A profile selection window should pop-up and you will have an option to create a new profile.

Try opening your page while in that profile.

Additionally, you can go to Help -> Restart with Add-ons Disabled (safe mode).
Firefox will restart and will give you the option to either reset it or start in safe mode.
For starters, select the "safe mode" option and see how it goes...

I tried firefox -p in the terminal. It opens up firefox, but gives no option in creating a new one.

I also tried the other option, safe mode. safe mode itself looked like it worked, no bookmarks shown, add ons aren't available. but still, no luck.

When I hit "tab", I can see a rectangle or box around stuff you can click on. Not even using that and pressing on the spacebar will get it to select that option.

Could you please post a link to the page that displays this rogue behaviour?

unless you have verizon, it's going to be hard. If you do, just go to www.verizonwireless.com, log into your account, and then under "my verizon/my plans and services", select "change minutes, text or data"

This page?

No issues here.

But more importantly:

Did you reboot your computer after the latest upgrade?
This usually corrects a host of problems and if Firefox has been upgraded you will see an upgrade notice. (Recent)

I assume when you say that you have fully upgraded that you mean KDE 4.9.2

From what you have said this is more of a random freezing/slowdown problem.

If a reboot does no resolve the matter I would start to suspect hardware problems; overheating or power supply come to mind.

Forget about sasquatch and extraterrestrials, it's those gul darn leprechauns we should be concerned about!

that's the page, and I can select stuff on my smartphone using their browser. the crome browser works, my moms macbook works (safari browser), and even firefox at my job. all works, but firefox on my computer using PCLinuxOS.

I did reboot the computer, even turned it off, then on. tried the "disable add ons", and in terminal "firefox -p"
no luck.

I have suspected this laptop to be dying. words on the taskbar, or I think even highlighting them in the menu, may at times for a second, come together. almost like you're mashing the letters together.
some times the browser will lock up, mostly on imgur. I think a couple other places.

and verizon, that screenshot, can't select stuff.

I am planning on a new laptop in February; because I fear this one is dying. Any way to find out for sure?
