I came across this and decided to post it for " Old Times Sake "

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/11/26/os2_final_fail/

scroll down to: What about OS/2 server?

The picure is a near perfect copy of where (how) I spend my very first working day(s) after training.

I feel so ancient now  :'( :'(

Edit: some corrections to text.

Fascinating article. I have never understood how Windows -- not only with NT but with Windows 95 -- managed to take over the market when OS/2 (although lacking a lot of necessary drivers) was so obviously superior. Now I realize that it wasn't only because IBM's potential customers were stupid; the idiocy originated in IBM's marketing department and management.

OS/2 was awesome in it's time. NT 4 was pretty decent too. When I worked in IT our mail server ran OS/2, it did a heck of a nice job. They ran NT 4 on 300 desktops and for the most part once I built a hold set and started loading it on the PCs they ran pretty darn reliably. Things sure have changed since then...

I found the whole article to be quite interesting.
There is a 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man.It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity, between science& superstition,& it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call PCLINUXOS!

It is obvious that during this era, I was using Windows and was in fact very productive with it. I am glad for it, as I am well glad that I am now using Linux full-time, and don't need to boot Windows ever again.

Oh, just earlier today, a neighbor on hearing that I am "quite versed" on the computer brought her laptop with Windows 7 and asked me for help with her wifi. I flatly ... but nicely refused by saying I only use Linux and would be too troublesome for me to look for her laptop model (HP) and find out whether a wireless driver is available on the HP site, download and install. I'm pretty sure it would be just too easy to do but nope, I'm not touching her Windows.

So we ended up having bologna sandwiches and pineapple juice ... chatting casually about my return to China and why I wouldn't spend Christmas in Manila.  :)

I found the whole article to be quite interesting.
Yes, I have to agree  ;)

Low and behold; I setup a Windows machine a year ago for my dear old mother, and as happens in families when a disaster arises, someone rises to the top and takes charge. No, that was me, I've learnt my lesson. I did however take home the machine that mum had hacked (to death) and have set it up.

My emotions are high, I haven't left Linux, as I've setup Win it aint going online which I'm sure all would agree is one of its major faults, whatever the version.

It has some offline advantages, like familiarity in recording Video, which I do in PCLinuxOS, but it aint that great, plus Audio editing.
There's some very cool tools in linux which I love like  - *Avidemux-GTK2, endless possibilities, plus the rest of the cool stuff. I love PCLinuxOS. (ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..........)  :D

These people who come to you with Windows problems; you tell 'em to ring either their ISP, Microsoft, or their vender or a Technician, or drop in at a Computer repair shop, and make sure they have CASH $$$$.

In fact, a good rule of thumb: Put at least 10% of the cost of a Windows Installed Computer in a safe place for repairs, once you buy such a thing.

No bologna was eaten during this post, or before, in fact ever, I dunno what it is  ;D ;D ;D

Regards,

Abraxas

For the life of me I can't see why Windows ME didn't put them out of business for good. That was my first experience with a computer--I knew less than nothing about them then and if I had known I certainly wouldn't have bought what was probably the worst os ever made. The fact that ME didn't destroy the company either shows that Microsux is very resilient or there are a lot of people who are gluttons for punishment.
