Samsung Galaxy Note on PCLOS
« on: November 26, 2012, 03:00:49 AM »
Hi All

I have a new Cell Phone - A Samsung Galaxy Note I - and I wonder if anyone else has such a combination and has it  working correctly with PLCOS 2012??

All I get here is the ability to transfer photos TO the computer and what I want is full interoperability. Is there software for this or has anyone got it to work??

Samsung tell me, by the way, that this can NOT be done..... I wonder!!!

The  app that seems to work is gnomad2 as this will see mtp devices once you have scanned your device. The only problem is is that it will crash if you try yo transfer more than one file at a time.

Thanks to both of you for your replies!!

I installed gnomad2 but no matter what I do it can't see my phone  >:(

I also tried Andy's link but again it just does not seem to work!! When I get to the line 'mtpfs -o allow_other /media/transformer' it tells me "no such command"???

Anyone have other ideas for me? It's quite a good phone but not as good as all the Palms I've had in the past but of course the new 'Bigwig' at HP cancelled the line!! Where do these guys get their ideas from!!??
I can remember when Palm held the top 8 positions in the Top 10 of Cell Phones!!

That sounds like mtpfs isn't installed, or you are using a regular user rather than root

in some phones you can set the usb port to work as usb mass storage device and not as mtp, this depends on the manufacturer, if it what left that option or not, check in the phone settings

this phone as many other phones are using the usb port as mtp protocol only, so the system sees it as a camera and lets you download the images only

this has nothing to do with the os, this was intentional so only that content can be read and not written

you can use airdroid with your phone to upload and download any files to it just by opening firefox and writing a address the app gives you

for samsung phones there is a app called samsung kies wireless but i never used it so i ignore what it does and how it works

Any phone brought here I just take the CD card out and read it as a mass storage
device.

cd card?

microsd maybe? but that doesn't work if the device is not using that card or if the device doesn't have a microsd slot

if all attempts to mount it by cable fail, you can install air droid from google play excellent little app, just install and then access through your web browser. you can then transfer files etc up and download over WiFi ;) I'm assuming you have wifi though  ;D

Thanks Guys

For all the great ideas!! I appreciate!!

I've put my phone into Samsung here to have a Software re-load as it was doing some strange  (phone) things!! They say I will get it back in a few days.

When I have it back here I will try some of your ideas and report back.

Thanks a lot!!!

There is a free app in the Play Store, Software Data Cable, that works great for mtp. You run the app after plugging in your usb cable and it will give you an address to type into your file manager i.e. Krusader or Dolphin. Once you have done that you'll be able to transfer files easily. Good luck.

I use the app from Play Store "ES File Expolrer" on my Galaxy Tab.  It is an improved file manager which will also show your wireless network and enables you to transfer files both ways.

My wife has a lesser samsung i3303 and I have to use kies software (free) in windowsXP as guest VM or reboot - I don't know if it works in wine or not.  Strange to have a linux based phone but not kies for it.

the only thing with kies is, is that it makes Itunes look good on windows  :P  I'm sure there are ways of getting that sammy to behave under linux  ;D
