re-install given me a screen resolution that's too big
« on: November 24, 2012, 03:35:14 PM »
Hi,

I see that this subject has cropped up before but I can't find a solution in the searches I've made.  I now have a screen with a res of 1024 x 768  which I can't change using the 'configure your desktop' app.

Some help here would be appreciated.

flighty,

You don't say which DE you are using.
However, for LXDE or KDE, the same method works.

Go to Configure your Computer (PCC button) and, after putting in your Admin password, select
Hardware > Configure Video Card

On my laptop I get four lines:
Graphic Card
Monitor
Resolution
Options

Select the Monitor for your system -(mine is Flat Panel 1366 X 768)
Click on Resolution  and if your desired resolution is not showing press the down arrow there and choose Other. Scroll down to find your chosen resolution and click OK
You will get a message about rebooting so choose Quit and leave PCC. Then Log out is enough
When you Log back in again, your new resolution should be permanently in place.

Good luck

Jim,

Sorry I didn't say that I was using KDE.  I didn't know it would make a difference.

KDE is different to what you describe.  The Configure Hardware and Monitor Display just gives a list of what seems to be types of video card, or something.  Mine is locked on to 'Vesa'.  Anyway, I tried right clicking it and, low and behold, I was then able to configure the card to what I wanted, and had before I re-installed.

Many, many thanks for your input.

Best wishes,
