[SOLVED] User Agent

There is a service on my ISP's site which is limited to Windows and Macintosh.

Is there a User Agent I can use - in ANY browser -  that will pretend it is Win or MAC?

Any I have tried in Firefox either give Linux as the OS or N/A .....  and as N/S is neither Win nor Mac I cannot get access to the service.

Any suggestions for browser and/or user agent choice?

There is an add-on for Firefox called "User Agent Switcher". I am pretty sure that Chrome and Opera have add-ons for this too.

As I said above I use one ......  but is there one in particular you recommend that will spoof the OS as well as the browser?

There should be no difference. Just make sure that you use correct user agent

OK, what am I missing please?

Any I have looked at ....  mostly Firefox .....  will change the browser ID to something other than Firefox, but the operating system ID remains as Linux.

What is needed to change the OS ID when selecting one of the user agent options?

DUH!

Found what I needed thanks to  sir_herrbatka's post.

Although I could not watch what I wanted in the browser I was able to extract the stream URI and am now watching in VLC

Firefox > Tools > Default user agent > Edit user agents > Click and expand Internet Explorer > Select IE8 > Edit.

Sling-shot ......  it appears that I must have been doing something wrong ....  or expecting too much.

The video stream I was trying to access is blocked by my ISP for OSs other than Win & Mac .....  and none of the user agents worked .....  I continued to get blocked because of using Linux.

I used a Firefox & Windows user agent string and got a result today ..... not that the stream would display but I was able to copy the URL from the failed embedded Mediaplayer window and am watching the Brazilian Grand Prix now using VLC on PCLOS.

Next thing is to see if I can manage to get an embedded player to work with this .....  but I think it looks specifically for Windows Media Player.

You mean to say a user agent that looks like what I have shown above still is being identified as coming from a Linux machine? They must be using some other technology to determine the OS then.

Another thing to do could be try Windows build of Firefox in Wine?

As I said above .....  it came good when I used a user agent for Firefox .....  or at least good enough to show the Mplayer window even though it would not play ....  and from that Window I was able to copy the URL and VLC followed through it to the actual stream which it played.

Hence, as far as I am concerned, my problem is solved .....  and maybe if I had a VLC plugin for Firefox it would play embedded ......  don't know as yet ......

Either way, I get to watch the video stream, despite the blocks .......

This is what I was getting from most of the non-Linux user agents I tried ..... but all is good now
