DuckDuckGo - Is Google Playing Fair?
« on: November 23, 2012, 02:54:27 PM »
"Privacy-oriented search-engine and Google-rival, DuckDuckGo, is contending possible anti-competitiveness on the part of Google. MIT graduate and founder of DuckDuckGo, Gabriel Weinberg, cites several examples; his company's disadvantages in the Android mobile OS; and browsers, which in Firefox requires only a single step to set DuckDuckGo as the default search — while doing so in Chrome requires five. Weinberg also questions the domain duck.com, which he offered to purchase before it was acquired by Google. His offer was declined and duck.com now directs to Google's homepage. Weinberg isn't the first to make similar claims; there was scroogle.org, which earlier this year, permanently shut down after repeated compatibility issues with Google's algorithms. Whatever the legitimacy of these claims, there certainly seems a growing market for people interested in privacy and objective searches — avoiding profiled search-results, a.k.a. 'filter bubbles.'"

"Is Google Playing Fair?" Have they ever? They didn't get to where they're at by playing "fair" , I don't even think it would have been possible.
Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.

I have never trusted Google.  And that is why I do not have an Android phone.

It is now too late to stop Google. They are like an infestation. A disease with no cure.
In a couple of years they will rule everything you do on the internet. You won't have an option to not have them in your cyber life.

It is happening before your very eyes.
There is a 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man.It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity, between science& superstition,& it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call PCLINUXOS!

Joe... you are pissing me off!

Because what you say, could be quite true.  Google.ca is still my default homepage, mind you.

I look at it this way.  What is safe and secure on the net anymore.  I use my Dropbox account big-time.  But I don't put anything into it that is sensitive.

I question my Facebook account every month.  But my friends, cousins, and nieces want me to stay on.

What does a person do?
One of the few things I've learnt as growing older.  Is to choose your battles.. but never loose sight of the war..!

Sorry to put you in that frame of mind Sammy.

It is a scary thought to think I might be right. The truth is there to see. We just need to see it.

What to do?  Well, I/we/us/everyone have to totally change our way of thinking. We have to change our mindset on our views on privacy. Also, Changing the mindset in the way we do business as far as personal information involving banking, credit, bills, etc.

Everyone alive right now , has no privacy. We like to think we do, but we don't. We protect every shard of our lives and still it is all out there.

Yes gloom and doom but it is how it is. It is the truth and we know it.
I find it ironic that I had just started a thread which has mixed meanings for me here in the forum.

Of course this is all MHO.
