If you want to remove the trash can (waste bin). the option will only appear if you unlock widgets first  ;)

 thought that might be the case, but when I unlocked the widgets, nothing changed.

As a widget, there should also be a sliding bar with buttons for Settings, Resize, Move and Close. It the X ... ;)

Yes, I get that. But why would anyone assume that by clicking the "X" would empty the trash can ???  In any window you have the "X" doesn't mean anything more then to close the window, why would it have any different meaning for the widget ???

Why not give them their own account so they don't share your desktop? Then they can do what they like and learn from it.
