Remove a right click action?
« on: November 22, 2012, 12:30:30 PM »
I am pulling my hair out with a *certain family member who insists on deleting my Trash bin
by right clicking and selecting DELETE !! instead of Empty Trash Bin.

Is there any way this option can be disabled/ removed?.

It would be wonderful if it were not there at all, as was once the case. Perhaps someone can
look into this for a future update.

Yes *Sally I am referring to YOU!

If your using KDE, open Dolphin and go to to Settings>Configure Dolphin, click on the Services tab, scroll down to Delete and uncheck it. That should remove it.

Doesn't that lead to no delete option in Dolphin as well? Rather unwanted if so.

Yes, there will be no delete option on the right click menu, but move to trash will be there. I started using the move to trash instead of delete, when someone here delete a bunch of files of mine by accident. This change only effects things controlled with the Dolphin file manager. Other programs or file managers aren't effected.

Select the icon. Press F2. Add a dot in front of the name. Press Enter.

I may have misunderstood what the "it" was ... the right-click or the icon itself. I came to the conclusion that Jonesy's family member was right-clicking on the Trash icon and selecting Delete. So I translated that it would be best that the icon was not there and nothing to delete so I suggested that it be hidden. Dolphin can still be used to Empty the Trash.

1. Archie, that is indeed a very useful workaround. I will note it down.
2. Moving to trash seems to actually move things there. Takes too long for big files here. (compared to the way it is done in Windows I guess) So I rarely use it.
Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

Oh, I wouldn't move a large file to Trash; I'd simply just delete it ... shred is even better. But for photos and documents, there are times that I needed to double check and make sure that either that I don't need those or I have copies before I Empty the Trash. It's the same habit with my mails. Every now and then, I would empty my Gmail accounts knowing that I have local copies that I've archived ... I got emails dating back 2005. ;D

I don't have the default icon because I use Desktop setting.  I added the waste bin widget and this is what I see:

If you want to remove the trash can (waste bin). the option will only appear if you unlock widgets first  ;)
