For me it's Monday but I think Sunday was considered to be the first day of the week (at least until recently).

I suppose it depends on how you look at the week ......  Monday is the first working day for most people I believe ...... but since I no longer go to work I guess it could be any day  :D

My calendar asks for first day of the week (Sunday) and first work day of the week (Monday)
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

Moving the first day of the week from Sunday to Monday was and is barbarous, not only because it breaks a millennia-old tradition in many countries, but also because it makes nonsense of the names of the days of the week in a few of languages I know: Mittwoch in German and keskiviikko in Finnish stand for Wednesday, and both mean "middle-of-the-week", so there's were it should be. But it isn't according to the International Standards Organisation. It's just the middle of the work week. And I don't approve.

I suppose it doesn't matter if your Wednesday is simply Óðinn's Day (Wōden's Day in English) or Mercury's Day. And I suppose it may be seen as an improvement in places were the first day of the week has always been Monday. But don't you all hate change.

I've read your posts so I know you do.

I have always considered Moon Day as the beginning of the week.  Saturn's Day and Sun's Day are the week end.

Why are you prejudiced against the original titles for the days?  I think they sound better than the boring mispronounced stuff running around  today.  Thanksgiving Thor's Day , Black Frigga's Day,  etc.

This is funny. Me and JRex were having this very discussion the other day.

I was actually taught that Monday was the first day of the week but there is not a printed Calendar, that I am aware of, that would confirm this data.

They all start with Sunday. ;)

EDIT: "in the U.S.

That is because the Christians controlled the calendar for centuries, thus Gregorian Calendar after the Pope that standardized the calendar.  So they made it so their worship day was listed first.  It is too bad that we just can't shake their influence long enough to catch a breath and think for ourselves.

Not many theologians would agree with that.

I don't want to turn this into a discussion about religion, but as the Jewish Shabbat falls on Saturday the manufacturing process must traditionally have started on the preceding Sunday....

And actually the original Christian resting day was also Saturday (as it still is for  Seventh-day Adventists). The French name for Saturday reminds us of this: samedi is a contraction of sabbati dies (literally "the Day of the Sabbath"). And according to Wikipedia "All Slavic languages derive their name for Saturday from the name for Sabbath".

Sunday became a more special day for most Christians because it was the day of the resurrection. Again the French name for the day tells the same story: dimanche is a contraction of dies Dominica, ("the Day of the Lord").
