The repository might be no longer available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and the correct writing of the repository address in the preferences.

your repo is trying to find the kde4 section of the repo, but it doesn't exist anymore, only kde

you can edit the repo sections in synaptic/preferences/repositories

remove the 4 in kde4

also try heanet repo to see if it helps

this change was done a couple months ago, not sure if you can update securely the install or if you should wait for a better recommendation than mine

I have the identical problem, but not the solution.  I cannot find a way to "edit the repo sections in synaptic/preferences/repositories".  Synaptic in /sbin is not a text file.  Synaptic as accessed from the desktop ikon has a preferences area, but repositories are not included.  It also has a repositories area, but it does not seem to have a way to do the edit.

Start Synaptic; click "Settings" on the menu bar; click "Repositories"; click the line of the repository you are using to mark it; that will make the "Section(s)" line editable.

i don't see where you got the idea of edit a file or a route to it

we were talking about synaptic the cli tool and the options

Thanks for your help, Bald Brick, in explaining to a dull wit how to edit the repository.  Seems to be the equivalent of editing /etc/apt/sources.list.
For me, after choosing a source that worked, it continued on to asking for an updating of the system, upon completion of which installing LibreOffice was a breeze.

It is. It's a way of editing /etc/apt/sources.list from within Synaptic.

Incidentally, the update removed the faulty "4"s from the all of the lines with kde4s.

A full update would also have updated the apt-sources-list package to the current version (1.0.3.0-1pclos2012).
