Hey! I'm quitting GSM!
« on: November 19, 2012, 04:03:16 PM »
I don't need it now.
The GSM service, you know.

----------------
My mom forced me to have a pocket phone since I worked then at those times a relatively dangerous work and she needed to know if I'm well.

My mom died and I work now a different work, relatively safe.

-----------
And I'm quitting GSM service - not needed for me  :)

i use my phone for work, to contact my family and friends and also to take pictures(it has a decent enough camera)

other people tends to be allergic to technology, sometimes for good reasons

sometimes i don't want to have the phone on me, it is a concern on most cities, people like to steal cellphones so be a victim of a robbery is common

it could be seen as something complicating your life but it also makes more simple some things

certain technologies are not for everybody, you seem to be a person not needing a phone

I have two (company and personal) and sometimes I actually make a phone call.

Else I use it for texting, e-mail, feed reader, internet, chat (What's App).

But to be really, really honest, I'm not sure if I would miss anything if I didn't have one. Sometimes it would be less stressy to not have one.

Then just keep it and run up a big bill, so if we're not going to survive, you won;'t have to worry about paying the bill  ;D ;)

I have been reading articles about Cell phone providers are refarming their 2g (GSM) networks for 4g LTE.  So in a few years you will probably need to purchase a new phone anyways.

the networks will remain hybrid for some time

for those who can't get 3G thanks to poor coverage, phone uses frequencies for 2.5G or EDGE, blackberry does that alot, once a blackberry user complained that his blackberry was damaged because it didn't had edge, i explained him that edge is what you have when you don't have 3g or 2.5g  :D

4G won't cover entirely the country so the slower networks will remain in place for a long time

most gsm phones have 4 bands now, 850, 900, 1800

some has 1900 and recently 2100 depending on what network uses it for 3g and 4g/lte

4g is for data only for the moment, so phones will use gsm frequencies for calls and 4g for internet

So...
My meaning is that I never needed urgent/mobile connection.

I have an e-mail account, I have a stationary phone (Bell phone Ya know :)).

If there's something urgent they tell me over cell-phone -  I can't come there for this urgent 4 minutes.
After those 4 minutes if the caller is still alive (my children, my friends) then they would be able to call me later/tomorrow on the e-mail or by the old Bell-phone (wired phone ;)).

So it seems to me I don't need a cell-phone then.

"Bell phone Ya know"

i hate those phones, if i could i cancel that line

it stresses me the sound of those, it is even more stressing when i can't reach in time the phone

sometimes you just hate technology altogether

And don't you hate it if it rings in your pocket? Or somewhere in your guts? :P

And you can't pretend you're not there at home? ;D ;)

"And don't you hate it if it rings in your pocket?"

sometimes i do, but i can choose the sound that will cause me stress, on the fax i can only change the frequency

"And you can't pretend you're not there at home?"

i could do that with my old phone, it had weak signal so make excuses was easy when required  ;D

with new one i can say that it was on vibrator mode or that i couldn't hear it  ;D
