I have my Lenova notebook at work this morning. I applied the patch at home lat night and, as I reported, it works.  I booted at the office this morning and things came right up.  I did have to configure settings a bit.  I use Open DNS at the office.  For some reason, I'm not able to get my weather applet or RadioTray to each the internet using the regular DNS addresses.

Anyhow, Network Center came up and I was able to see the connection and do my configuration.:)  Wonderful!:)  Prior to the patch, both my home and office connections appeared to be using the same DNS addresses.  I'll check again this evening to see if my home connection comes up using the assigned DNS settings or copies over the Open DNS settings.
Toonfully,

Mark

Hi,
I too can confirm that the patched library works by listing all the available APs.  But the update/refresh is not working properly as in the symbol on the left side does not reflect the status properly.

I would also like to point out another issue which existed before and still does.  I have 2 APs  that I can connect to.  My wireless connects to one of it automatically.  When I want to connect to the other one, its almost impossible to get connected. It always connects to the first AP.  I need to disconnect from the first one and then try the second one multiple times - and it looks like I need to be lucky to get connected!  Something that you may want to look into as well.

Thanks for the fix so far.

Venks.

A bit more background on this. Mandriva (the developers of drakx) have updated the current version of drakx-net to 0.98 (no that's an incremental number, not an rc for a 1.0), so what we have here is 11 versions old, and couldn't cope with the new wpa_supplicant API. I've investigated packaging it, but it no longer provides net-monitor (now a separate application at Mandriva) and net-applet, which they seem to have abandoned.

TerryN has obviously done a lot to get the old version working (albeit not bug free) and that's great as a stop-gap (and I think he should submit his SRPM for proper testing as it looks better than the repo version), but the long-term decision (which I presume Neal will have to take) is whether pclos forks all the drakx stuff (PCC/MCC etc) or follows Mandriva. I suspect unless pclos gets a lot bigger I know which way it will have to go, but I'm just a 'umble user.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.  I am aware that there is still some problems to solve but this will take more time.  My priority was to get a list of networks without which the applet is pretty useless.  I intended to submit the SRPM once I had a full understanding of the problem and what I consider to be a proper solution (rather than the workaround I have implemented).

Just a bit more info that may help (or not!).

I am running kernel 3.2.18-pclos2.bfs and the fix works for me.  I installed kernel 3.2.18-pclos2.pae in an attempt to solve another problem and I could't get the wifi working at all.  Switched back to3.2.18-pclos2.bfs and it works fine ???

I totally agree but I too am just a 'umble user.

Terry.

A humble idea.

If there was a way to turn WPA off thru LXSession it could solve
the problem for us WEP users.   Reduce some processing overhead,
until it's fixed, of course, or just forever then.

Just thinking about the WPA problem causing that if that's the only
problem.    Have to turn it on then in LXSession if WPA is absolutely
needed as well.

TerryN,

Thank you! Your package also seems to have resolved my issues. Now, I can't wait to spread it around to all of my computers and apply it.

Everyone reports Terry's package is doing the trick, I believe it should be shipped to the repositories since it's clearly better than the current mess (and perhaps even announced in the appropriate forum section). Let's get the wi-fi working properly again for everyone, the issues left can be fixed afterwards.

+1

Releasing a usable but buggy build now won't stop you building a better version later, but it allows people to get on line who currently can't. Nothing is lost and something is gained.

The patch helped me to reconfigure my own network as I reported earlier: however, right now I am at a conference and staying at a motel. When I went into PCC to configure the motel's free wireless, PCC showed no networks at all. I had to scan for networks using my cell phone, then add that network in PCC. Since I took my laptop to the conference for a workshop as well, I have had to do this procedure twice. It was only after I had configured the connection, that a list of available networks showed up...

Probably one of the bugs in the system..... ?
