If anyone needs/wants to try a workaround for the problem I have created an updated drakx-net package which solves the problem for me.

Obviously, this is a use-at-your-own risk type thing but I'd be interested to know if it works for others.

EDIT: 2012/12/27 Link removed as it is now in the repo and will be installed as part of normal update process.

Installed it on my 32bit test system (miniMe fully updated, kernel 3.2.18-pclos2.pae.bfs, Realtek ‎RTL8191SEvB) and seems to be working.
Network manager connected to my home wireless and still showing all available networks.
Seems to not have other issues so far. Will report back if anything unusual comes up.

Trying to install it conflicts with my at present installed version.
Removing the present version leads to whole range of stuff removed I want to keep.
Maybe a instruction is needed?

It sounds like you were doing rpm -i instead of rpm -U

Tried your workaround Terry.

1. The network now starts OK on bootup.
2. The panel applet still only shows the connected network.
3. I clicked on "Disconnect Wireless" and the other networks showed up.
4. Tried to connect again and the network stayed down.
5. Went to "Configure network", set it up again, and it connected just fine.

Thanks for your efforts, I can now use PCLinux again and ditch the other distro :)

Trying to install it conflicts with my at present installed version.

As root:  rpm -Uvh https://dl.dropbox.com/u/62125185/libdrakx-net-0.87-13_terryn_2012.noarch.rpm

Note the -U. It sounds like you were doing rpm -i

Terry.

Roger, that worked!
It now sees my network. I am just not at a spot right now with other networks around. Will check that out soon. For now this fix is a improvement for sure.

I installed it and am rebooting. I hope this is the fix we've been looking for. :)

I didn't need to reboot. I opened Network Center and everything listed and came right up.

It was working for me before the fix, so I am testing to check if it breaks. ;) Since hostname issues are affected by booting, I figured it was a better test to see what happens after a reboot.  At first, my connection dropped twice, but then it connected and now seems fine.

I applied the patched draknet & got near perfect score.
On a restart my wireless is at off position--never behaved that way before.
But after a couple button presses wireless led lights, & connects.
Got my network listed in the left-click network window.

I disconnect-hit refresh and network remains listed but refuses to reconnect from that window.

But, if I hit refresh, that little green circle appears, & connects automatically without further action.

I'll monitor it's behavior to see if it changes--especially the power-on state.

This fix solves my problem also (WPA changing to WEP and then WPA getting corrupted - Refresh not working once connected or trying to connect). Only slight problem is I have to hit Refresh once connected to change the button from connect to Disconnect and to bring up the connected icon in the left column. If I don't do that, hitting the Connect button causes the connection to be restarted rather than stopped. Also, after Disconnecting the connected icon remains in the left column.

It would be great if that last bug could be ironed out. One dirty way would be to trigger a refresh once connection/Disconnection had been completed.
