Sometimes, Free is Good!
« on: November 21, 2012, 06:25:49 AM »
Several months ago, I went into a local MicroCenter with a coupon for a free wireless router.  The Tenda router they gave me retailed fro about  bucks.  It's wireless N.  I had internet hooked up (New provider) and pulled out this router.  Wow!  It performs much better than I thought!  The signal covers the entire house!  So much so, I'm thinking about pulling out my spare PCLinuxOS box and setting it up.  But instead of pulling a cable all the way across the room and setting modem and router in a new location, I thought I'd just get a wireless card and put it in the system.

So, any wireless card recommendations?  What make/brand should I steer clear and what would be best for Linux?
Toonfully,

Mark

I use USB wireless dongles ....  have two at present

Belkin F5D7050B          050d:705a Belkin Components F5D7050 Wireless G Adapter v3000 [Ralink RT2571W]

Packard Bell WiPen      1044:8008 Chu Yuen Enterprise Co., Ltd GN-WB01GS

It would be a worthwhile exercise to read forum problems with wireless .....  I think most of them stem from Broadcom devices ......

I use a wireless USB adapter from TP-Link for my kids' desktop and works out-of-the-box with PCLOS.
The specific model is this:
