The post is a bit unusual but intended to broaden my research and internet search results, here we go.
Probably for more than 10 years I have been the very happy user of a VersaKey V-2508 special keyboard. It has 2 extra rows of 32 keys which can be shifted, meaning 128 extra keys. These keys can record keystrokes plus some more programming which I haver not really explored. Used extensively on my wife's pc.
I decided to look at getting another one and after long time finally found the current owner of the licence and obtained a price, $630. The price seems a bit stiff even for me, the model is now USB connecting but I need to procratinate a lot more before buying. Around $200 would have me thinking very seriously even if the keys are not mechanically of high quality.
So I am on a search for a program, probably in development some where, which will allow two USB keyboards to work
independently, the highlighted word is the key. There is generally no problem having two keyboards installed and working on the same application at the same time.
My searching so far has revealed that somebody may have succeeded in running English Language on one and another country language on the second. This is not what I am looking for either as I understood there was still some common elements.
I also found a hint that somebody had experimented in Windows with programming so that the two keyboards were treated completely separate. The programming from what I understood so far would be far beyond me at present.
The final complication would be, as many keys as possible should be programmable one way or another. Like being able to attach or bind a macro recording to a key.
What I would like of course is to have a linux program that would do the job.
I am more electronically minded so a small Arduino like computer and a keyboard can very likely be connected up and serve the purpose. Even starting with a small 4x4 keypad matrix would be helpful. Whilst this looks very simple on paper I have a healthy respect for the time required to put this together.
I do want to avoid re-inventing the mouse, since I have been thing along these lines for more than 12 months I expect that somewhere in the "clouds" something like above described has already been "invented"
