Avidemux freezing

Have avidemux and avidemux-qt4 for my KDE.  Have used it in the past, no problems, but haven't used it for a couple months.

Opened avidemux-qt4 up today, and the window opened fine for the program.  When I either click file/open, or just the open icon, nothing happens, and the program freezes.  When I click the "x" in the upper right to close the program, I eventually get a "not responding" winning asking me if I want to terminate.

I tried reinstalling avidemux and avidemux-qt4, and it still happens.

Still now working...

Just as a further explanation, when avidemux freezes, I did not choose a SPECIFIC file to open, just the icon to open a box to CHOOSE a file to open -  so it is not a specific file type, like avi.

Other than avidemux, what would be the next best video editor that is available to us, which is fairly easy to learn and use?

What is happen if you use the gtk version of avidemux?

And more information is need about your problem,
so start avidemux from terminal, and post the messages...

i never could use qt4 version but gtk can run for days without problems

Before seeing your messages, I right-clicked on a file I wanted to open and opened it with avidemux, and it did.

Not sure how to open in terminal...I opened terminal, typed in "avidemux", and got:

bash: avidemux: command not found

I installed avidemux-gtk, and seems to work okay.  I thought gtk was for gnome and qt for KDE?

Guess I have to stop using gimp 

So...gtk or qt - one is not better for KDE, just use what works?

well, gtk is for every platform including kde

kde is compatible with gtk tools like gimp and many others

the idea of have a native tool is that it should work better but it doesn't for many of us

I installed them to see if I could replicate the issue. Both avidemux2_gtk and avidemux2_qt4 started without errors and the file->open and the open icon worked without problems on my 32-bit LXDE install.
