My Mum is 79, will be 80 on the 24th of December, which is handy as I just give her a combined Birthday, and Xmas present.
She has bad Arthritis in her fingers, some of the joints go at 90 degree angles. I hadn't noticed, so making shortcuts on desktop, or Quicklaunch, or favourites has had to be the way.
For example, it took mr five hours to teach her to "Right Click" in WinXP, a Desktop Icon I renamed 'Emai'; then "left click" open, to open 'outlook express' (Email client) in Windows.
The questions; "Why do I 'right click' that one. and 'left click' other ones'.
Oddly she writes a great letter with pen and paper.
Some Classics: "But why are you saying "Default Sretting", that doesn't make any sense. Maybe 'Factory Setting' is more easily understood.
It really does open a whole new world when people who have never used a Computer hear the terminology, and the actions we take for granted, like Right, and Left clicking, plus being intuitive.
And of course, each 'oldy' has had a very different life, and experiences, depending what fields they worked in earlier in life.
You've gotta love em though, whether they're your parents, or just Old and require some simple help time.
As I said teaching Mum to open one program: Five hours, due to her Arthritis.
Have got her another Comp, with a special mouse, plus Win7, she likes it !
