Okay thanks, I think I had already done that, (found that thru other forums) and that's probably why there was no prompt for a password.

I still have to run 'rfkill unblock 0' in the konsole after every startup tho I guess that's not a big issue.

There is a script at "/etc/rc.local".

Everything in that script runs just before the GUI starts.
Add the following line in the file to have the command auto run at startup

rfkill unblock 0 &
.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

That is quite handy, thanks.  I just still don't understand why no wireless networks show up in the Network Center under the active wifi card.

this is a known problem, different users get different results from different solutions.Put it simply, the solution isnt known yet.

First thing to try is to go to pcc and delete the network interface and then recreate it,if networks still do not show up,then follow below post and thread.

Got my WiFi blocked and gone after several updates (including some Fn functions)
The old(er) kernel 2.6.38.8 to the resque. It's still in Synaptic so you can try.

Alright I won't worry about the wifi networks not showing up.  I have deleted the network interface and then recreated it. Would creating multiple network interfaces work?  Just so that a person doesn't have to recreate the same interface every time they visit a WiFi hotspot, such as a school or library.

When you create an interface, you have to give it network properties that are of the network you are trying to connect to.To create a network interface in advance to a network whose properties you currently do not know is not very useful if its possible.

No it seemed to work as I was logged into the normal user account.

That 'known problem' about the wifi networks not showing up must be for older systems.  I just ran the LiveCD on an HP dc7800 Small Form Factor computer with a TP-Link Wireless N-Lite USB Adapter, and the wifi network showed up where it didn't before on my friend's older laptop.  Also I had pclos Full Montey installed on another computer that has an Intel Motherboard with only HT (not Dual Core as the HP is) that was from a local school and the wifi network showed up on it, I remember.
