Mobile hot spot
« on: November 17, 2012, 02:01:39 PM »
I have PCLOS working fine and my htc phone can connect to internet. I have win7(dual boot) and will not get internet. For some reason, the htc phone mobile hot spot work only in PCLOS. In win7 it will go to google or yahoo, it will show search links, but this is as far as it goes. Will not go to any other web page. What it the difference in setting?. I need win7 to get on net too. I know that I am asking for help with win and that may offend some. For that, I am sorry, but I need the win 7 too for some software. Thanks.

You are going to have to tell us a bit more about the computer that is dual booting PCLOS and w7.

Does it have a hardware Ethernet cable connected to a modem in addition to a WiFi radio?

Does it have the drivers in W7 for the WiFi?

PCLOS will happily connect via the last connection used. It can use a WiFi connection on many computers even though there is a hardware Ethernet cable connected.

The last time I played with w7, it seems like it would always go to the wired cable if both were present.

In any event, if you can connect to some sites through the hot spot but links don't work, I would look into whether the hot spot acts as a DHCP server and whether W7 is set up to use it. Also check into what W7 is set up to use for DNS lookup.

Beyond that, I can not help as I do not have access to W7 and have no smart phone...with luck, I never will.

Windows 7 is not connecting at all with the internet? Or the problem is just with the HTC?

When in Win7, Check to see if your browser is set to Work Offline.
Have you tried to ping any sites using a command terminal ?

..also try disabling any ad blocking software on both devices; sometimes the links on google can be blocked by them, as they are often redirects through google servers (for tracking purposes).

This can also be caused by a limit on the number of redirects that your browser will follow.

I solved the problem by installing Safari. There is something in IE and Firefox different from Safari. I try Opera and Chrome too. Only Safari will let me go to all pages. Thanks for the help.
