Apple Now Owns the Page Turn

If you want to know just how broken the patent system is, just look at patent D670,713, filed by Apple and approved this week by the United States Patent Office.

This design patent, titled, “Display screen or portion thereof with animated graphical user interface,” gives Apple the exclusive rights to the page turn in an e-reader application.

Yes, that’s right. Apple now owns the page turn. You know, as when you turn a page with your hand. An “interface” that has been around for hundreds of years in physical form. I swear I’ve seen similar animation in Disney or Warner Brothers cartoons.

(This is where readers are probably checking the URL of this article to make sure it’s The New York Times and not The Onion.)

Apple argued that its patented page turn was unique in that it had a special type of animation other page-turn applications had been unable to create.

Sickening  >:(

One would start thinking about "money buys all" as anyone with his/her brain at the right spot would never grand such a idiotic patent.
Of course this like art they would say.... only the "experts" see the value ..... The faster this Apple rots, the better.

crap-Apple are doing well with the patent office recently .... with design patents.

Now page turning after getting approval for their design of a rectangle with rounded corners ....

As far as I am aware, neither of these are applicable outside the jurisdiction - USA -  in which these  have been granted.
I might be wrong on this, so please correct me if that is so.

What concerns me most is the mental health of the people working at the US patent office.

So switching to the next page is not patented? Animating the switching is? And there's no prior art?

It isn't just the patent system that is broken. It's the people who grant these patents that belong in a mental institution. Preferably a pleasant and humane one, but if no such hospital is to be found, give them a few electroshocks and a lobotomy nevertheless. They don't use their brains anyway.

Maybe it is time that the patent office gets investigated.

Again i look at this with sadness,Apple are stopping innovation every which way they can.
No fancy turn pages graphics because Apple own the patent,i don't use readers i prefer good old paper.
How long before Apple say" you cannot turn a page on a book like that because it infringes the patent we own on how to turn pages"
Total madness ??? ??? ???

This Apple is already rotten, they just haven't figured it out themselves.

"and greedy idiots should not receive patents!"

but, if they can't get patents, then, who else would want one?  ::)
