Hi!

Please post the contents of the file

/etc/fstab

You should be able to access the content by opening the file with Kwrite or other editor.

How does the drive do with other types of CDs?

If you insert a CD with data on it (maybe an old liveCD) can you access the CD from your file manager?

Do you have any DVDs to try? .....  either data or movie DVDs ......  again would like to know if they can be accessed or played.

I opened a terminal and typed that command (after I did su and entered my password) and got this:

[danny@localhost ~]$ su
Password:
[root@localhost xxxxx]# /etc/fstab
bash: /etc/fstab: Permission denied

Why should it do that? It is my computer and I am the only one who uses it. Very strange.

Another easy way to access it using J17's KWrite suggestion is to first open Dolphin or Konqueror  and right click on the fstab file and then choose   Open With > KWrite

Thank you. I couldn't believe that my own computer denied me any kind of access running as root. First time it's ever happened.

I also did the command in the terminal with the cat added this time and got this:

Code: [Select]
[xxxxx@localhost ~]$ su
Password:
[root@localhost xxxxx]# cat /etc/fstab
# Entry for /dev/sda1 : UUID=ad2659f3-757c-4a9e-a0de-cf26633fcafd / ext4 defaults 1 1
# Entry for /dev/sda6 : UUID=9449b188-0b13-4722-b732-6074012237fc /home ext4 defaults 1 2 none /proc proc defaults 0 0
# Entry for /dev/sda5 : UUID=e99d0fec-67dd-4f6a-8158-d75f1951566c swap swap defaults 0 0 none /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
[root@localhost xxxxx]#

EDIT: set output in tags, daniel!

Thank you. I just hit copy and then pasted it. I didn't know you had to do html coding with it but that is no problem, I know some of that.

I have some stuff I need to take care of and will be back later. But I wanted to say thanks again to all those who have helped me already and who are trying to help with these last couple of issues.

Other question, which DE you are using?

DE (kde4, lxde, xfce or...)

When you put an audio cd in your drive, is it mounted by default?
Open a devicemanager, and ask you what you want to do?

Can you hear any sound from your system, youtube plays fine?

I am using the newest version of KDE as far as I know (pclos 2012 whatever, the newest one).

When I put a cd in my dvd drive, what it used to do and should do is just play it assuming it is a music cd or a movie. Right now it is not doing that. It will work with a live cd, tried that last night and that still works fine. And yes, I did finally get my sound back on youtube. Right after I installed pclos to my hard drive I had sound issues with both skype and my cd/dvd drive (static and distortion). youtube worked fine until I took it to the shop to have them "fix" it and they made the problems worse than they were.

I assume the answer to your question though is that it seems the cd's, dvd's whatever are mounted by default since it works fine with a live cd. But if I put a music cd in it, it just sits there and clicks like it is trying to read the disc (I guess).

Did you have devicemanager started in your panel?
I'm not fit on kde, but i think you have to start this applet...

Where can I find that? I looked after you asked the question and see nothing about it in the start menu and I think I looked at every possibility.

I've had several issuse's with the new upgrades, but try kscd from the repo's
this should allow you to play your cd's when inserted.
