.93 was the first PCLinuxOS I tried. I was using Warren Woodford's distro at the time. I didn't switch immediately but I was very impressed with it. It was the 2007 release when I made the switch.

I started off using preview 4 and later switched all my other machines from Mandrake9.2  to PCLOS p92 and have been with PCLOS every since.

I vaguely remembering something like .92 as the first release I tried. Took me 5 days of running wget as a background application launched hidden at start-up in an internet cafe I used to visit regularly to complete that download!

The thing that drew me to PCLinuxOS was a line I read somewhere that it had 2 GB worth of software compressed into a CD size image (or was it 500 MB?). I really wanted to check that one out :)

Ah. That also reminds me of another one that really drew my attention - SymphonyOS with Mezzo desktop.
Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

Does anyone remember the pre-pinwheel PCLOS? I vaguely remember it was a waddling blue or green penguin? It was very brief and of course came the pinwheel.

I don't remember what the logo or the launcher icon looked like, but I do remember Jose Rangel's lovely default wallpaper with swimming penguins. I still miss it.

That's an interesting picture, also because of the logotype at bottom right. First a standing penguin with a yellow disk (the sun?) as a background. And then a sans-serif "PCLinuxOS" -- where "nu" is not yet a ligature.

I've seen one of Rangel's later wallpapers on this very forum:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,102711.msg876258.html#msg876258
but there we already have the pinwheel as the launcher icon, even if the logo on the wallpaper itself still shows a penguin.

In both wallpapers you can also see the sun through the water. Is that the origin of the circle surrounding "PC" or "PCLinuxOS" or Dobie in later versions of the logo?

It'd be the little nipper on the lower right side.

The pinwheel was great.  .92 was when I landed here.  Was just trying every linux I could to get a P3 system to work in the garage so I could make notes and take care of data for to help win a champion ship series at the local remote control car track.  Won the series :o  Still have the trophy and PCLinuxOS.

I've had all of them except this one. I think I was still trying to get Mandrake to work back then. ;D

See it in the corner  ;)

This is how I remember it after my first install (Winter 2006-2007) "Big Daddy." I was hooked.  :)

I wish that I could find my old disks. Is there a link to the default background image? I'd love to have it for nostalgia's sake.  ;D

Right click on the image, click on Save Image As, name it whatever you want and you're good to go.

Well, yeah, if all I wanted is a nostalgic snapshot.  :D

But what I'm after is the original wallpaper. I suspect that I can pull that off the 2006-2007 "Big Daddy" iso.
My goal is for a January 2013 desktop screenshot; my six year anniversary with PCLinuxOS.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Oh, I thought you just wanted the picture on the thread. Sorry for assuming that.  :D
