I am very saddened to hear this news. It is really amazing how connected we can become to someone we've never seen or even talked to. R.I.P.

So very sad to hear of Dave's passing. When I registered on this forum back in 2006, he was one of my go-to guys for help with my transition from Windows to Linux. And boy, did I need a lot of help...still do. I will miss you Dave, thanks for your wisdom, humor, and yes, even your raves...always entertaining!

I remember Dave back when we were trying to get RAM DVDs to work.  Being from AU where he had a restriction on how much he could download, I remember he was trying to use them for using the postal service to pass things around with a few of his fellows to avoid everybody downloading the same stuff.  I wanted to use them for storage purposes, never did get them to work properly, still have about 10 of them in my rack.

Sad to see my contemporaries and even those much younger than me go (I'm 80 next month).   I hate the word elderly, you're not elderly unless you're 10 years older than me.  Not many elderly folk left now.  But to me the rest of you are still kids.

RIP, Dave, I hope you are in a better place.  Thanks for your contributions to PCLOS.

He had a very low opinion of corporations and the new 'corporatism' which he saw creeping in everywhere.

And there he may well have been right.

+1, he was one that saw things many didn´t see or ignored. His "rants" could be explained as warnings at times. I can only hope a few or more remember the lesson in time.

RIP "Exwintech" Dave.

Deepest condolences to his family. Thankfully it was a "brief illness".

I think I had better clear up a small matter for which I accept responsibility ... I was not thinking straight when I made the first post.

Dave had on-going medical conditions which kept him from working. He was on permanent disability.
His condition/s have been managed quite well for the past few years.

On Thursday morning he complained of not feeling good, and returned to his bed.

He died Friday night/Saturday morning.

It was that time period which prompted my use of 'brief' in the first post.
I really meant his 'bad turn' was brief.

Hopefully I have clarified my mis-representation of his situation. Apologies to all.

Regards.
