[SOLVED] Printer sharing
« on: November 14, 2012, 09:11:03 PM »
This involves software and networking so thought maybe better here.

pclos 2012.02 on desktop ip address 192.168.1.103 . TWO printers were originally installed on this machine via PCC with no problems and working fine. However have since moved these printers to laptop described below and they also were installed and working fine via PCC.

pclos 2010 on laptop  ip address 192.168.1.100

I can transfer files via ssh between machines. CUPS running on both machines.

CUPS on laptop is configured to share printer Brother dcp7020 . I have never had any luck installing, configuring , running or sharing printers using CUPS  - ever - so have always used PCC. On laptop selecting PCC>hdw>printers opens the dialogue I am used to,  with toolbar showing "add printer, set default, edit, delete, refresh, configure CUPS."

On desktop PCC>hdwr>printers opens dialogue showing both printers but of course they are no longer physically connected to that machine. However printer dialogue looks different showing icons of the two printers but no toolbar with
"add printer, set default, edit, delete, refresh, configure CUPS."

All that's showing is "ADD" and "refresh" so hit "add". and select find network printer. Inserting ip address of laptop returns "no printer found".

In the past I am used to the printer dialogue box with tabs showing "configured on this machine" and "configured on other machines" which shows on the 2010 laptop but NOT on the 2012.02 desktop.

Has something changed from pclos 2010 to 2012 printerdrake?

Thanks

[UPDATE] Interface has changed from 2010 . had to tick "allow CUPS" in firewall and tick "publish shared printers connected to this system" . Don't remember having to do this before but all seems fine now.
