XFCE 4.10
« on: November 14, 2012, 03:55:02 PM »
Xfce 4.10 is stable repositories now.

A list with obsolete packages in repository (guess they gonna be removed soon):

libxfce4mcs
libxfce4menu
parole-browser-plugin
thunar-shares
xfce4-config
xfce4-datetime-plugin
xfce4-linelight-plugin
xfce-utils
xfmedia

Some packages are renamed by the XFCE developers.
Some packages are broken (a known issue) like remmina-plugin.

If some issues/problems are found with the XFCE 4.10 packages report it here on this board or broken packages board.
Hopefully can then a PClinuxOS XFCE iso produced in the near future.

After an update (Synaptic- mark all updates) I can't access to Xfce d.e.  Pclos starts with a Gnome-emergency desktop.

During update were (automatically) removed a lot of packages (mainly xfce-4.8 packages) and update ended with the message:
error during installation of pkg garcon-0.2.0-2pclos2012:
find: `/home/neal/src/rpm/BUILDROOT/terminal-0.4.8-2pclos2012.i386': No such file or directory

Warning in file "/usr/share/applications
.......
(my localization is in italian language, tell me if you need a translation)

I launched newly synaptic mark-all-packages and the error was:

error during installation of pkg xfce-kiosk-4.10.0-1pclos2012:

find: `/home/neal/src/rpm/BUILDROOT/parole-0.2.0.6-1pclos2011.i386': No such file or directory

Launch (synaptic) task-xfce fails with the error:
task-xfce:
Dipende: mousepad
Dipende: xfprint but it is not installable

and nothing is installed.

At reboot, as I said, xfce won't start, with the message:
Nessuna riga Exec nel file di sessione: 06xfce4.
Al suo posto sarĂ  avviata la sessione GNOME d'emergenza
(no line Exec in session file 06xfce4. Will start an emergency Gnome session)

In Gnome environment (fully operational I must say, also if I never installed task-gnome)
synaptic won't install task-xfce, nor mousepad, because it depends on "xfprint  but it is not installable".
Synaptic - look for pkg "xprint" finds only "libxfprint0" (installed ver: 4.6.0-5pclos2012) and "libxfprint-devel" (not installed).

What have I to do to restore XFCE environment?

In Garr.it mirror ..../apt/pclinuxos/2010/RPMS.testing/  there is a package "xfprint-4.6.0-5pclos2012.i586.rpm" .... have I to install this package?

Thank you for yor reply

f you try to update to this version and Synaptic shows that many xfce packages will be uninstalled than please don't use the "Mark all updates" button. You have to mark libxfce4util for update. This causes the uninstall of some obsolete packages (should be around 10 or less) and then mark of some others for update.

Now you have to mark the rest of your installed xfce applications manually.

Thank you for your reply JohnW  :)

...but that warning appeared on Nov. 14, I made the update on Nov. 13  :(

And however I always trusted on Pclos Synaptic...
(almost every day there is an update, and usually I  don't check in the forum if there is a different way for update)

I do never trust Synaptic fully, I do always checking first what's going to happen on my install (what's gonna be updated, what' s gonna be removed).

Could be happen that a package could be have a wrong dependency a remove a lot of things.
So check always before you " apply, apply"  with synaptic.

I thought I backed out of an update by not clicking Apply... on Nov. 10 or 11... but my system says I have XFCE 4.10.

two nights ago, I had a panel with several empty launchers (my launchers were still there, but the configuration was gone - no program designated for any of the launchers - and I had to reconfigure each of them).... libxfce4util is installed... and my menus look totally different than they did before (Accessories and System sections in place of Configuration section and Multimedia in place of Audio and Video sections) ..... tonight when I booted up, my panel was completely gone and had to be restarted....

any ideas?  any help is appreciated...

I can confirm that xfprint is not installable, making mousepad uninstallable, and making task-xfce uninstallable.

I can also confirm the menu changes that Meemaw has described, as well as the loss of launchers. I did a fresh installation of Phoenix, then upgraded first libxfce4util, then reinstalled all the other Xfce apps by hand, followed by an update of all other installed apps.

It certainly has been a long day of trying to get Xfce functionality back. Today started with a hard drive failure on my Thinkpad T42. Once that was replaced, that necessitated the reinstallation of the OS and my favorite DE.

Oops!  forgot to report that.... but it is true for me as well, so I had to install another text editor....

There is a way to install xfprint: using the "testing" Repo (and, after this, disabling the "testing" Repo, obviusly!)...
... but it don't resolve due the lack of the weather plug-in. The "task-xfce" package remain uninstallable because the "weather plug-in" appear lost.

Hi all,

to the lost panel setting, the old panel is backed up in /home/<you>/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml as xfce4-panel.xml.bak

and in /home/<you>/.config/xfce4/panel.tar.xz

to get the old panel pack remove

/home/<you>/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-panel.xml and rename the .bak file to xfce4-panel.xml

to get the correct item in the panel remove the /home/<you>/.config/xfce4/xfconf/panel folder and extract the tar.xz archive there.

Hi, people!
After the update (from XFCE 4.8 to XFCE 4.10) I have to search (it disappear!  :-\)  for the "Panel Trash Applet" (different that "Trash icon into Desktop"). Have you any idea solving my quest?
Thank you!  :)

Xfprint is still in testing section.
It's a dependency for task-xfce4 and without xfprint the meta package won't work.
Hopefullly soon in xfce4 section.
