A hunting we will go
« on: November 14, 2012, 12:56:46 PM »
It was Saturday morning as Jake, an avid hunter, woke up raring to go
bag the first deer of the season. He walks down to the kitchen to get
a cup of coffee, and to his surprise he finds his wife, Alice,
sitting there, fully dressed in camouflage.

Jake asks her, "What are you up to?"

Alice smiles, "I'm going hunting with you!"

Jake, though he had many reservations about this, reluctantly decides
to take her along.

Three hours later they arrive at a game preserve just outside of San
Marcos, Texas.

Jake sets his lovely wife safely up in the tree stand and tells her,
"If you see a deer, take careful aim on it and I'll come running back
as soon as I hear the shot."

Jake walks away with a smile on his face knowing that Alice couldn't
bag an elephant - much less a deer.

Not 10 minutes pass when he is startled as he hears an array of
gunshots. Quickly, Jake starts running back. As Jake gets closer to
her stand, he hears Alice screaming, "Get away from my deer!"

Confused and frightened, Jake races faster towards his screaming
wife. And again he hears her yell, "Get away from my deer!"
followed by another volley of gunfire!

Now within sight of where he had left his wife, Jake is surprised to
see a Texas game warden with his hands high in the air.

The game warden, obviously distraught, yelled, "Okay, lady! You can
have your damn deer! Just let me get my saddle off it!!!!"

This joke really is a bit insulting.

I know plenty of proficient deer hunters that happen to be female.

I am not taking any offense to it but the joke seems to assume that women in general don't know the difference between a deer and a horse.

At least from where I sit, if you found it funny, that assumption would have to be made.

Now, there may be people that don't know the difference between a deer and a horse but I seriously doubt they would fall categorically into the "female" group.

ps. I still laughed,,  a bit.  ;D

Actually, it reminds me of a story that I heard during Deer Season in Wyoming a number of years ago.  Several hunters came every year to Wyoming for deer season, and this year decided to bring a nephew along.  Well, this nephew never had been outside of New York City and was novice hunter in every sense of the word.  His uncle told him that a deer was furry and had horns, so he shot a furry animal with horns.  The farmer whose sheep he shot was not impressed, but the guys paid him for the ram.  I ran into them at the bar laughing about the whole incident.  Since I worked at the local convience store, I got to razz him for the rest of the week.  He took it well and we all laughed over it.

Ah yes Deer Season, the stories I could tell, but those are for another forum.

you see, ppiklapp, the fault there is with the experienced hunters not educating the novice and, furthermore, not supervising him.  ignorance can be mitigated with knowledge.  stupidity - not so easy to deal with.

Yes, they were not great at educating him, but (and maybe it is just me) how many 18 year olds don't know what a deer looks like.  I admit this was in the late 80's, but I just can't imagine him living 18 years without at least seeing a picture of a deer or a ram.  I would have been more understanding if he had shot a pronghorn.
