firefox to the rescue: nokia will make firefox smartphones

if i remember correctly the first firefox phone will be a zte made in brazil

the one from nokia will have to wait until mid 2013

the problem i see is if it will use google play store or their own store using apks too or what

if this is successful, android could sink fast

if nokia does it well, samsung will want one too

if i remember correctly they said that it was compatible but i could be mistaking it with tizen. still probably will be the same, packages in a zip file renamed to a new extension delivered in the same way google play does it now

didn't nokia dumped meego and many months later adopted microsoft?  while basically abandoning symbian too?

Personally I don't even know anyone that has a Nokia phone these days. Not sure if Nokia will be a help or more of a hindrance with their recent track record. Don't really need or even want a "smart phone" at this point in time, regardless of what's running it.

nokia is selling alot of phones but most people won't buy something bigger than a nokia C3 or similar, high line apart form lumia is basically not sold to anyone anymore, for example nokia asha and similar, are sold as chaphones, popular between women that like to chat with a simple phone

lots of people that buy nokia are just old users, people that has always bought nokia but since those users are buying simple phones, you only see the phones when they change the song they are listening, radio station or answering a phone

you do see everybody using samsung, sony, lg iphone because those are big smartphones and you can do alot with them, not only make calls that is what most people think when they buy a nokia, a strong trusty simple phone

What they will do, is sell their mapping application to other systems, in the hope of making some money.

Pity, but there it is.

they can abandon if they see that this platform can do what they need it to do

they wanted to make windows phone 7 and 8 a company savior but it hasn't happened

I have serious doubts about any mobile OS that supposedly uses only web applications. Firefox OS is supposedly HTML5 all the way. In addition to the Chinese, there may be another Brazilian or South American mobile operator/manufacturer.

Nokia are all gung-ho about Windows Phone at the moment so they look very unlikely to launch a phone of their own with a new OS. However they have been very aggressive about their mapping platform and have agreed to share this jewel with other competitors on Windows Phone. So they might be thinking why not get the most out the only good thing they currently own and extend it to all mobile platforms.

Although they have abandoned MeeGo, EOLed Symbian, they are continuing to develop their Series 40 platform phones. They have even begun calling them "smartphones"!

I'm no big fan of Smartphones, but if you work in an Industry that needs data collection very handy. Or you have a ton of friends, Kids, relatives, or you just need that info at hand, nice.

Mozilla Firefox ? just before Google Chrome appeared, did Google buy a chunk of Mozilla, I tend to think so, but aren't 100% sure.

google has good relations with mozilla but be owner and do a competitor os for the best market around

i don't think that is true

the interesting part about firefox os is that it is made by a big browser that is known worldwide, so it will be easier for them to gain attention and support, alot easier than google with android
