resizing hd
« on: November 14, 2012, 11:30:31 AM »
Can I use windows Easus partition manager to resize the /root and /home?
The default set the /root for 12G only and /home for 160.
I run out of space on root. I was able to remove some file to free the/root but I need more.
I do not know how to resize in Linux. The partition manager in settings do not have resize option.
Thanks.

If your partitions are formatted with an ext filesystem, I'm not very sure that EASEUS Partition Master can handle them.

GParted is another partitioning program you can use, very similar to EASEUS Partition Master.
To resize your / and /home partitions they have to be unmounted. You can't do that while they are in use.
You have to use a LiveCD or USB, boot from it, install GParted from Synaptic and then resize your partitions.
Or you can use the GParted LiveCD http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php.

Easus will see them but that is all. I am downloading that gparted ( it will take me 3hr) and will let you know. I do not mind clean install, but I have my favorite games(angry birds) configure and running. Afraid to mess up. Thanks.

I have used EASEUS Partition Master under Windows 7, that's why I advised you to avoid it :)
I'm sure you will find GParted very easy to use and will resize your partitions with success.
Although a backup is always recommended when performing such operations...

Hi Dupek,

Save out critical partitions with clonezilla, and save out personal files.

The KDE Partition Manager seems to be able to handle it well enough.  It's part of the standard KDE version of PCLOS.
