<Work-around Found>Hulu, Opera, and Flash Problem
« on: May 14, 2012, 11:27:37 AM »
Fully updated KDE-Opera Version 11.62- Flash version 11.2.202.2357.

I doubt this is a PCLOS problem but came up empty posting at Opera so I wanted to check if anyone here had had the problem and perhaps an answer.

Since upgrading to Flash 11.2.202.2357 Opera freezes at Hulu going between normal and full screen. Usually (99% of the time) if I can get to full screen Opera crashes when I go back to normal. Hulu works fine in FF using the same flash so it doesn't seem to be flash per se. I do not have the problem viewing YouTube or Amazon on Opera so it seems to be specific to the way Opera reacts to flash at Hulu. Just trying to figure out if it is an Opera or Hulu or what problem. Anyone else have the problem? Anybody have a solution?

Try turning off Hardware Acceleration
Looking on line it seems Opera will not have Hardware Acceleration till Opera 12.x and i have Opera 11.x. Looking in Opera:Config where you can turn it off in Opera 12.x I didn't find it.

If you play a flash file ....  say from Youtube .....  right click in the window for access to the settings.

Turning off hardware acceleration in Flash causes Hulu to freeze instead of crashing the browser when going between full screen and normal. Sometimes takes two shifts from full screen to normal but is really no better, just a different problem..

I tested in Opera 12.0 (beta) and did not seem to have the problem so I'll just wait till the stable version of Opera 12.x is released and comes to the repositories. Thanks for your help.

If you did want to use HULU the following Chromium and Firefox add-on works (tested on Firefox 16.02)  The article mentions MediaNet but the link goes to the Media Hint add-on which is the one I've just tested. Also tested Pandora and that played fine as well

Media Hint

This extension allows you to access internet media streaming services like Hulu, Netflix and Pandora from anywhere in the world. No additional set-up required. Install extension and you are ready to go.

Thank you!   ;D  ;D

It works well!

Although the content is not of great interest to me (for the most part) I have just watched a film and the reception has been flawless.

Very pleased to have another option to waste time  :D  ;D

For me the problem was in Opera and it fixed itself a couple of new versions of Opera ago. Thanks though for responding.
