Android users beware
« on: November 13, 2012, 04:57:37 AM »
Willing or not, you are feeding the Dark Side ....

http://techcrunch.com/2012/11/11/with-htc-patent-deal-apple-is-going-for-androids-jugular/

And not just a little, its MAJOR!
Reading this has turned me of of any Android device. Its like buying M$ or Apple in a way. Not me. I rather carry my Linux laptop around as long I can´t find no smartphone or tablet running "simply Linux". I just don´t want "them" to have my money. Not a dime.

Time to look for a NEW OS for these things that is free of these "$$$$&§$$$" monsters.

The part that HTC already pays Microsoft a fee for every Android phone sold, is true.
I guess it wouldn't be impossible to have a similar case with Apple...

Did HTC or MS confirm the terms of that deal?  Does it apply to only the phones sold in the jurisdiction in which some of those patents apply, or to all phones sold world-wide?

I don't think I have read any official release of terms of such a deal.  $10 per phone?   10c per phone?  only for phones sold in USA or world-wide?

So far I only came across speculation about the terms but would like to access something official if you have any links. Thanks.

I'm only referring to what I'm reading online. I can't confirm or reject any of the news since there are no official statements from the companies involved.

HTC's official statement about this "agreement" was: "Last year, HTC and Microsoft did announce a licensing agreement for Android handsets. Such agreements are not unusual in the wireless industry, and as is the case with all such agreements, HTC does not disclose financial terms."

you know that almost all of those agreements happen for reasons related to design, features or technologies present in the devices itself?

i can't remember a specific situation where those pay me for each phone you sell happen for something made by android or google

i would like to see microsoft or apple going directly against android and google saying that the os has this or that violating a patent or something very specific

not like microsoft saying that linux violated lots of their patents and they was going to sue us hard, that never happened in more than a decade

That too is all I have read that is official ........  yet the internet has lots of speculation about $10 per phone and other such terms which appear to be almost accepted now as truth, yet there is no basis for the figures.

Nothing but speculation it seems ....  maybe I should spread the word that MS has to pay HTC 1c per MS phone in the cross patent deal  :D

Hehehe, you either take it light or are in denial.

"Although the numbers are not public, reports say HTC pays Microsoft $5-$10 for every Android phone it sells, and Samsung pays even more." is worrysome enough to me.  I mean, not like you obviously, I would need "proof" of the fact that these statements are not true instead of the other way around.  Both M$ and Apple are worse enough to pull these tricks. Maybe not even really their fault  but rather that idiotic patent systems giving them the chances to go this far while driving up the prices and hindering innovation. Alas, no penny from me!  :P

The thing to remember in these cases is the decision to accept the agreement is strictly a business/financial one.  It is simply corporate bullying:

"Pay us $10 per phone sold, or we will drag you through the courts for years, costing you billions of dollars.  Even if you win, you will be out of business."

Really?  "reports say"?

What reports?
What sources?

None of this information is available to me as yet .......  if you have something more solid than that I would love to read it  ;)

.....  and no I do not believe unsubstantiated "reports" which most often are simply speculation on behalf of someone with an axe to grind .....

I think it is really sad, that huge companies, making tons of money making a product find they have to sue their competitors.
Sure one needs to defend what is his/hers, but this is turning into a big circus....
Older then dirt, but still above it...

Just a thought.  Most laptops we in this forum use have had M$ Windows on it at some point in time.  Part of the laptop purchase went to that dark side.  I know my laptop hasn't had Windows on it for 4 years but it still has a Windows license sticker on the bottom.

Not one of mine. I will buy only stuff without OS or Linux/FreeDOS installed. No M$ tax for me.

An axe to grind ......
Wake up mate, this monster M$ is real.
There are numerous articles on line that point to the same direction. Android deployers are forced to pay the dark Side.
That is wrong but ......

Much more can be found on this on line.

Of course YOU can say these are all vague reports or estimates but I (for one) take this serious.  ;)

You must be lucky.  In Canada... if you buy a complete system, or laptop... It already has an OS on it.  That is why I build my own towers.  It costs a bit more, but I get what I want.
