hi res with pclos , only low with windows?

I know this is almost treachery, but I do have to run win7 for one purpose.  PCLOS is running like a dream on this new M/B, (Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P, rev 4, with 16Gb DDR3). However, win7 (64bit) cannot get past 1600x1200, while pclos sails happily on at 1920x1080.  I cannot find a driver that offers better than "vga", at least on paper, which seems strange. Reading small print etc, I get the impression that the existing driver will only drive the dvi port to more than 1600x1200.  Anyone know where I can find a 3rd party driver that will drive the dsub port? ('cos my 24" monitor only has dsub port, and I can't afford to replace it yet.)
It seems that linux wins again here!

supposedly you can reach 1080p in vga, at least i did with my tv and my netbook

what video card do you have?

the monitor will just do what the video card lets it

That's the problem, it's only the on-board video, and the m/b data is sparse, but I only get the options to select as far as 1600x1200. It seems to be the lack of a suitable driver for this m/b.

tells me that it has a 760g chipset that probably has a amd radeon hd 3000 video card

do you have the right driver for that video card installed from amd?
