Yeah I stopped it of coarse ;)

We have an another tool, too
Quote
unstopcp
Running Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier

I couldn't make unstopcp copy a single file even in a healthy HDD and even when I point to a particular file.
Also it doesn't accepts copying directories. :-\

Could you confirm please the same or I am doing something very stupid?

Went to the site of the creator http://roadkil.net/ and so people are donating for this application so it works for somebody. :-\

Also there's safecopy in the repository, CLI mode app, but I couldn't make it copy any file or directory. :'( :'( ;)

How about running "ddrescue" once with 0 retries. That way whatever happens to the disk in your efforts in your future, at least you will have recoverable files.
Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

Thanks for the help.

I tried ddrescue with different option combinations including
Quote
-n, --no-split
do not try to split or retry error areas

http://www.forensicswiki.org/wiki/ddrescue

It seems this HDD is heavily damaged and that's where's the main problem.
System behaves very slow with each action on it.

WinXP can't start (or boots veeery slowly) when the disk is attached

The more you access the disk the more damage is being done.

You started this thread wanting to skip damaged files ........  but then began to try to recover the damaged files.

Multiple reading of a damaged disk is only going to make it worse ... soon it will fail completely in all likelihood.

Get the good files off before trying to recover those from the damaged sectors.

Best procedure would be to image the disc to another good disc and try to recover files from the good disc.
