I figured the answers wouldn't be the obvious ones.  Cute though...

Two correct. Is that 50%? The black box and the Russian October Revolution. I knew Panama hats weren't made in Panama but I guessed Honduras. I knew cat gut doesn't come from cats but I guessed cows.

i only knew the last one

about the canary islands, it left me with the doubt so i searched and found that is not sure the origin of the name, canary supposedly comes from cannis(latin for dog) but there is a plant in the island called canna

there was a bereber tribe called canarii mentioned by plinius, in the near africa, where the islands are located

I got five right.

And the rest wrong:

I knew that the Hundred Years' War lasted a wee bit longer than a hundred years, so I put down 112. Should be worth half a point, shouldn't it?

Then I knew that Panama hats weren't made in Panama but in some country not far from Panama, so my guess was Colombia. Shouldn't that give me an extra quarter-point? (This is a bit embarrassing as I have owned a genuine Panama hat from Ecuador. I knew more and had more money then....)

I added "goat gut" to my cat-gut answer, but I still count my answer as correct.

Then I thought the camel's-hair-brush question was a trick one, so I answered "a camel". I should have know better.

I have no idea what a purple finch looks like or where I would find one. But crimson is sort of reddish purple, not far from what the colour setting on this forum call purple. So this really may have been a trick question, even if many people use "purple" for "even-more-bluish-lilac-coloured".

And of course I didn't understand why a black box shouldn't be just that -- although after some contemplation I now do.

Yes I found an incorrect question and I hope this gives me 2 points.

If so I have 4 and a half points and I am passing?

Well, the Chinese gooseberry question is partially wrong? Kiwifruit were cultivated in China long before the Kiwis gave them the name Kiwi and even before they called them Chinese gooseberries. And today they may come from many places in Southern Europe and South America. (Certainly not only from New Zealand. They can even be grown in Hawaii.)

Edit: I opened up my trusty Wikipedia and the Kiwi article is quite interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiwifruit
