[solved] Wi-Fi works only on KDE4, not MiniMe
« on: November 11, 2012, 07:34:02 AM »
After using PCLOS KDE4 for several months with a wireless router, I wanted to use the slimmer MiniMe; all functions seem to work except wireless access; wired does work in MiniMe.  I wrote down every setting in KDE relating to wi-fi and used them in the installation of MiniMe, but the connection failed message keeps appearing.  I am using a Dell Inspiron laptop, using a Broadcom router BCM4321 802.1 a/b/g/n.  Settings in PCC Network Center are Operating Mode-Managed; Encryption Mode- Open WEP; Encryption key is the same as used with KDE4.  I have reset the router, tried all combinations in the Network Center to configure, used a firewall on and off, made sure the wireless switch is on, etc.  Having run out of options, I would appreciate some help.  Thanks,

There may be a confusion there. The Broadcom BCM4321 is a WiFi card, not a router.

Some people are reporting problems with Broadcom wireless cards and the latest ISOs and updates. That may be your case, if you are using the latest MiniMe ISO.

The solution seems to be to use Windows drivers and Ndiswrapper; but in some cases it involves removing the current Broadcom drivers from the kernel.
Check this thread: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,110200.0.html
Read it in full, near the last posts is the explanation of what the OP did to solve it.

Hope this helps.

Truer words were never spoken, especially about the confusion on my part.  Definitions aside, to get my wi-fi to work, I deleted a ppp0 fast ethernet controller, and I was on-line.  Thanks for the pointers.  David
