GE runs fine on my desktop system. In fact, the upgrade is awesome!  some really fantastic changes.:)  Hope the issue gets ironed out for the laptop.:)

what is your exact chipset?
Can you post the output from
Code: [Select]
lspci

Also, have you considered updated to the 3.2.18 kernel?

Here's my output, just in case it might help.  GE is not running for me.

I've been reading some discussions over at Google Groups about the latest Google Earth update.
There are lots of users from different distros facing problems with the new version.

Seems that once again Google has released a fine product for all of us Linux users  :D

I suggest we bring back version 6 to the repos for those who are facing problems with version 7 (at least until there is an update from Google).

You have a similar video chipset...

This is also an i5 or i7 laptop?

I'm thinking there are still some outstanding driver issues with these, possibly...

i3.   All desktop effects work wonderfully.:)  Google Earth worked in the past.  Right up to this recent update.

Could be an issue that v.7 is exposing, or causing...

Would installing libxorg-x11 and/or xorg-x11 help?

I ask because I found this post:
